| Hi, I was just wondering if there is a way to get improved performance out of the stock compressor in my gamo bigcat 1200. Are there any aftermarket performance accesories to do this? If not would getting a custiom made more powerful compressor spring be viable? Thanks. |

Jordan, welcome to AirGunHome!
A stronger spring alone may not improve pellet speed, but could actually have an adverse effect. Piston assy. weight, lubricants, and an ideal pellet and pellet weight for your rifle along with trigger improvements, are other factors that could also improve performance.
Accuracy is also a component of performance. Were you actually inquiring about improving pellet speed consistency thereby enhancing the probability of improved accuracy?
Best regards,
Amigo |

Look here...
www.airguns.citymax.com
Maybe a spring/seal & some good lubes.
debur everything before you reassemble
exspecly the inside of the cocking slot to
stop the new seal being cut on any burs
as you slide it in.
Nice tight fitting spring guides are a real
benifit for a smooth fireing cycle.
A GRT-lll trigger will make a world of diffrents.

But as Amigo said...what goods power if
you can't hit what yer aim at.
Get it fireing smooth to reduce the
recoil and cant "twist" |

| Upping the caliber can be good too. I'm not sure if you own a .22 or .177 one, or maybe even a .25-er? Not sure in which calibers they all come. |

That won't increase handling or accuracy. |

Yer after 1250fps from a springer...one Question springs to mined WHY?
Just start shooting Gamo PBA pellets that should get yer close..BUT you will stuff yer gun with them. Or buy a PCP gun
Not one of my springers shoot over 900fps and they knock bunnys over out to 40/50metres and at that pellet speed when I aim for the head thats where the pellet hits.
You will learn in time FPS is not everything.... |

Indeed, and this isn't the first time when someone said so. Increasing the power and shooting light pellets at the same time may cause earlier wear on the spring, piston head, spring guide, harder cocking effort, lower shot consistency in both accuracy and speed...
In other words, aim at 900, in my opinion with reasonably average weight pellets, and if not satisfying start shooting heavier pellets to bring it down a little, also resulting in a higher amount of energy that is being transferred to whatever you're shooting at. |

| Who said anything about using light pellets. I want to use the heaviest pellets as I can. What a want is the ability to hurl a 15g pellet and have it retain significant ballistic coefficient at 100m. 8g pellets loose velocity exponetially after about 80m. If I use a 15g pellet with my stock setup the trajectory will be way too round. I appreciate everybodies input but does anybody have a method for obtain higher velocity, and power with my gun BESIDES suggesting pellets and other options. I simply want more air pushing the pellet out faster thats it anybody have a suggestion? |

Jordan, your enthusiasm is excellent, your knowledge is limited, yet.
The power you get pushing a pellet in a springer is the spring. The air is simply a cushion.
One other major fact- super sonic ammo in airguns is futile, the general hourglass pellet design tends to tumble when moving super sonic resulting in loss of accuracy and velocity.
The best you can do for your guns is to give them a nice lube job, a JM spring, piston seal, and tender loving care. It seems you are expecting the performance of a medium-high powered pcp gun out of a springer.
If your 1200 shoots a 8gr pellet at 900fps it is performing very well, and will have great power out to 75 yards. Besides doing the tune job, select a good pellet. For that gun you want (it's a .177 right?) about a high 7 to low 9gr pellet, I recommend the Air Arms field target pellet, JSB exact, JSB preditor, Gamo hunter, and CPH.
Final statement: your best off doing some work and using the right pellet. |

| Ok thanks for the advice. The one thing that still puzzles me, and is what infuenced me to ask these quistions is the 1250 fps spring guns on the market. I figure if they can get away with it why cant I. |

| Well, it's possible that you could get 1250fps with a 30gr pellet in a spring gun, it's just pointless. I would equate it to buying a 747 for free peanuts. |

Jordan,
If I may, I own a Gamo that was listed at 1000fps. In reality it couldn't break 800. The speeds listed on the box are pure fantasy, bordering on fraud. I sent my gun to the Tuna and got the full deal. Real speed went up to 880, but the best gain was in the way the gun shoots. Springers are a bugger to shoot accurately, and using a rest is extremely problematic. They also do NOT shoot heavy pellets well. My gun already has power that cannot be used at any extended range because the gun is just too hard to shoot accurately. If anything, it could probably benefit from LOWERING the speed and reducing the torque / recoil.
The stores are full of springers with great sounding specs, and they entrap a lot of people who just don't understand the problems with them. That is how I came to own one. Any gun is only as good as it's accuracy. It does no good to send a pellet PAST a squirrels head at 1250 fps.
In short, I wouldn't buy another one. I have a single pump on the way that is supposed to be a real shooter. It's speed is pretty low though. If I decide to move up in power I will look next at the PCPs. I firmly believe that hotrodding yours would be a total waste of time.

You said it, Ter! There is only one Rifle that will actually do 1250 Fps in .177, and that's the Diana 350 Magnum, and that's an impossible rifle to shoot in the first place... |
