Well, it looked like a good deal at the time for only 40 bucks. I didn't figure it was so big compared to my pistol. It is a one to one magnification, and it actually hangs on top of that pistol pretty good.

One to one magnification, yeah, that's what Red Dot's do. Mr. Green

There are magnifying red dots, but in my opinion your better of in such a case with a scope with illuminated reticle. A Red Dot isn't a scope because it doesn't magnify. Wink

I am redoing this pistol strictly for the 5 meter range on the weekly target shoots. I figure 1 to 1 isn't going to hurt me much. It may help because I can keep both eyes open while shooting.

Snap! Todd, I have also changed the sight on my Rohm, the old Walther red dot was getting a bit iffy, so I changed it for a Hawke 25mm red dot, and initial tests look promising, anyway we'll see later this week.

That 40 mm makes it nice to sight up though. It isn't very heavy for as big as it is. And it works nice in full sunlight too, unlike my last electronic sight.

I had to add weight in the grip area to balance my BSA red dot:

If you have flip-up or see-through scope caps, then you have some options. I went to the local glass/window place and they gave me a small scrap of smoked grey plexiglass (perspex). From it I cut out a circle that fits the front of the sight. It goes under the front scope cap in bright conditions, and works well. Like sunglasses for your gun:

The other two pieces were a failed attempt to correct parallax error (the dot moves if you move your head). It's not so much of a problem with a long arm, since the cheek weld positions your eye. With pistols things are more difficult. I was trying to get a reference circle so I could consistently center the dot in the field. I found it works far better to polish the paint off the rear bezel to create a kind of "ghost ring" reference circle. Some red dot sights have reticles to accomplish the very same thing.

For me, the beauty of a 1X red dot is that you look through (past) it and focus on the target, both eyes open. Very natural.
