Has anyone chequered a gunstock? would you use a fine wood gouge or would you burn in the design and then clean up the piece afterwards? I tried with a regular wood chisel but the wood kept chipping off to leave holes in the wood thanks Howard

I just ordered my checkering files yesterday. As soon as I get them I will post pictures of everything and start practicing on wood.
