Aside from the obvious fact that you're getting carpal tunnel from responding to posts here, how do you use computers in support of airgunning?

1. Do you use ballistics programs like "Chairgun"?

2. Have you worked up any spreadsheets, charts, etc. that relate to your shooting?

3. Does the computer assist in the design or fabrication of airgun "projects"?

4. Do you use the computer for analysis of group sizes, vibration patterns, sound levels, and so forth?

3,5 and 6 and as soon as I get a new CAD program I'll be designing even more stuff to make.

O.K., to answer my own question:

1. I have several ballistics programs, but trigger time is more fun than time spent figuring them out.

2. I have a spreadsheet that I use to calculate group size. It gives me group diameter, mean radius, and figure of merit. I use it when comparing pellets or a gun before/after modding.

3. Taking pictures of parts and then using software to visually move them around is like having X-ray vision. It lets me "see" inside the gun. I also use printouts of metal structures when I have to mate them to wood (like pistol grips). You just adhere the (flipped) picture to the wood and the hole locations and layout lines are all right there.

4. I use a microphone to create a .wav file of the firing cycle of my springers. Then I analyze it with a wave editor to see if my modifications have actually accomplished anything. I also use the computer to analyze group sizes. I use MS Publisher to create a .177" or .22" circle, which I position over a shot on a full-scale photo of the target. Publisher gives me an X,Y coordinate for the circle (relative to the top left corner of the document), which I then put into my spreadsheet.

5. I don't use the computer to drool over guns I might want to own, but I do use it to find ideas that I can make myself.

6. I don't use the computer to print off targets that I probably won't hit anyway - I use it to store targets that I probably won't hit anyway.

I use many of the calculators, but mainly I use the internet to order stuff. I can find just about any .177 pellet on the market in my area, but NO ONE carries .22 pellets. Also, other than walmart, you won't find an air rifle in stores around here. And even those are limited.

The internet is also a great place to find inspiration for projects.

I use my computers in someway for all my hobbies, which also seem to be interlinked in some way or other, my hobbies are Model Engineering, Photography, Electronics, and of cause Air Guns, plus a few minor hobbies as well.

As far as air guns goes I use the computer as a communication device, to access this and other sites, my main software is Photoshop, Autocad and a couple of data logging programs to log crony data and “chairgun” plus I also use “Audiocity” for producing wave patterns of tests etc. another program I have but can’t seem to get to work is “Airgun7” which is ballistic data collecting software, it recognises the crony but won’t talk to it. Going Nuts

I’ve been using computers since I bought a “Commodore 16” in 1980 it had 3.5k of memory, today you wouldn't be enough to write your name. And I must admit it worries me thinking about all of the hours I have spent looking at monitors over the years, I could have been doing something useful. Mr. Green

I sit in front of a computer all day so other than ordering stuff and keeping track of a couple of targets that I 'score' myself on, not much crossover.

Oh ya! Remember the Commie Pet?? That what we used to learn basic programming on! Later after the commie 64 came out, I was hoping Santa would bring me one for christmas that year. I even made a comment to a friend that I would buy the 20 Megabyte hard drive for it. And was like, "what are you going to use all that storage for???"

For me, I've used comp to design and print targets. Also helped me design a target stand. Or dream of lil do-dads I'l like to make for air guns once my foundry is up and melting metal.
