Been wondering about the RWS .177 Hobby- they show good accuracy in both my 13-77 pistol, and 24" bbl 13-77 carbine/rifle.

So... Out came the F-1 chrony, and a few 10 shot strings for test purposes- with the 13-77 pistol at 6 pumps:

1.) 514.1 fps

2.) 514.5 fps

3.) 516.7 fps

4.) 530.0 fps

5.) 526.9 fps

6.) 526.8 fps

7.) 526.0 fps

8.) 526.8 fps

9.) 522.7 fps

10.) 520.2 fps

Avg 522.5 fps, ex. var. 15.9 fps

The only pellet I've had better this over the chrony was the RWS .177 Super H Point with an ex. var. of 9.8 fps over ten shots. They are accurate, but the Hobby groups tighter.

I still have a lot to learn about what makes an accurate pellet in a given gun. The performance here is very heartening. A few pics of what the Hobby has done for me:

Muzzle weight experiment on 13-77 24" bbl rifle, each group, 5 hobby at 12 M.

This makes a nice indoor pellet. Once it warms up a bit, I'll see how it does in wind...

Very nice.

The Hobbies are a bit lighter than average (5.4gr as I recall)- so I would think they would be very good at shorter distances in lower-powered guns. Looks like you have proven it!

I'd love to see someone do a similar test with different pellets, but at long distances- i.e. 50m or such. Wink

I use Hobbies .177 in some of my guns and I find that for some the tighter fit in the bore, (they are about 4.52 skirt) makes them suitable for some Co2 guns with good accuracy, but they do not seem to work well in my springers, although the fps does increase by a fair amount, also I find that over 20m they tend to fall off in accuracy, but this seems to be the case for most wadcutters.

I got a little time to spend on the Hobby pellets tonight. Unfortunately, the camera isn't really up to this task- I can't get in close enough to show the detail of the skirt area.

Here's a brief run-down on the dimensions. My caliper is still in imperial units, so I don't know how close this will be to what others have found.

Skirt dia. is .183"

Head dia is .172"

Length is .2132"

I was going to average the measurements over ten pellets- but the first 5 were close enough that I decided not to bother.

There are a few lead flakes loose in the tin, and a few of the head faces have "shavings" on them from where the die sized them off.

Has anyone been able to shoot pix through a magnifying glass? Something for me to try...
