That was a rather interesting post. Interesting and weird.
CW, you don't have to post if you don't really have anything to say, you know. |

That's as true today as it was a year ago, that's why
I posted something. As long as we're stating the very
obvious, I just have to say that you made a statement,
also. |

I took the formula describing minimum performance per pound of animal being hunted and put it into a spreadsheet. While the results are within the realm of reason, they are different than the "1 FPE per pound of animal" that I'd heard before.
It's also interesting that the guy's formula shows lighter pellets needing not only more FPS but more FPE for the same size animal.

Phew! My coffee’s gone cold reading this, very interesting slavia especially as I have a Walther Lever Action, but using it over 50m that’s something else, 25m is the max that I have tried probably because I have never taken it anywhere to shoot, that was longer than 25m, next time I go out in the woods I’ll take it along and give it a go.
The only problem I can see is that using peep/iron sights over that distance could be difficult, plus the questionable accuracy over that range. But I’ll give it a go.
Just one thing after reading through this article two or three times, where does it say “Insecticides”? it was that, that intrigued me in the first place.

| Hey Al, how much is the Lever Action supposed to deliver in Fpe? I recon it would be about 12? |

| Thank you for putting it in a format I can understand Slavia. It makes sense to me now. |

The formula for estimating ballistic coefficients is the same as can be found elsewhere, plus a "fudge factor" for length. Here is the same formula minus that refinement:
http://www.chairgun.com/BC%20Guide.pdf
For example, take RWS .177 Superdomes (8.3 grain). Working the formula without the "fudge factor" you get BC=0.0146. All the published sources I could find said BC=0.0140, which is essentially the same. Adding in this guy's refinement brings it to BC=0.0176.
I guess I'll have to wait until spring to see if this is an accurate tool in the real world. |

I reckon between 10.5-12fpe depending on the temperature, but I think 50m is pushing it a bit, especially for hunting.
The Coke cans were shot at 30m which is about right, he does state that the Walther is on the limit using iron sights, and scope mounts for these guns are not very good. Shooting the 5LCarafe at 50m with a 28cm drop, I think depends upon the thickness of the plastic? But there again I haven’t tried it, so when the better weather comes I certainly will.

The insecticide references are the last two. What's next, incendiary pellets? |
Yea I was looking at the wrong translation, as for "Whats Next" how about a rat poison pellet for the anti hunting clan.?

| Hollow point cheese pellets, filled with anticoagulant rat poison. You just lob the food in front of them, and then watch as they hemorrhage to death. That would satisfy the animal rights folks. |
