yesterday, my wife planned a "romantic" day at a local state park here in north florida. after driving for an hour and a half, we find out that our destination is in a county that doesnt sell booze on sundays, so i turn us around and drive an hour in the direction we came to find a county that does sell booze on sundays.
beer and something being sold as "wine" procured from a local... um... shack with a register and a cooler... we head back towards the state park.
we arrive, pay our admittance fee, and drive towards the visitor center.
the parking lot is on one side of a small valley and the center is on the other. the valley floor consists of a nicely mowed "lawn" and a ton of hardwood trees...... a what seemed like 1000 SQUIRRELS!!!!
sitting there in her car, staring out the windows... i am imagining all the perfect shots i could make from this position.
my wife tells me to come to my senses and we have to walk across the valley and buy our tickets for the tour through the caves.
as we walk, the ground around the trees seems to be alive with these bushy tails. they evidently are so used to people they dont run away until you get within 10 feet!!!!!
while waiting for our tour to begin (which sucked btw) i start reading the regulations for this particular park.... and wouldnt ya know it.... this is one of only a handful of parks in this area that does NOT allow hunting!!!! just my luck... i find a squirrel hunting heaven.... only to have my hopes and plans for returning with the Disco being dashed!!!!
the rest of the day and evening... i couldnt get those tree rats out of my head!!! its hell knowing that they are there... taunting me... and i cant do anything but shoot em with a camera Crying or Very sad

I know the feeling man. I look out in my front yard and see flocks of edible birds, just begging to be picked off. But I can't because of my neighbors. Worst yet, I can shoot them if they land in the backyard in certain areas, but anywhere else I can only stare and hope that they move to a shootable area.

Maybe you could go talk to the park ranger and emplore him to let you hunt to keep the tree rat population healthy and stable. Also, tell him you are using an airgun and not a real firearm, which will make it seem less dangerous.

Think of it as a challenge! Find a neighboring landowner and bait the tree rats to come over. Mind you, there's probably some law against that too...

Roger, just crack the window a wee bit so you can shoot, or go into (if you have one) your side yard from behind the fence.
