are ok to sell in Australia as long as you say they are being used to toss bait in the water when you go fishing, any truth
to thatone?

I don't think that a sound suppressor would really do
much to dampen what little sound emission said
slingshot produces. Plus, it would be awfully difficult,
at best, to aim carefully enough to get the projectile
through all of the holes in the baffles.

roger, anyone with enough mechanical aptitude to change a light bulb could build a very functional silencer. the principles of how they function are quite simple. BUT if the risk of possible jail time doesnt discourage you, how about the just plain hassles. the way i see it, unless your going to do what CW did, and get the permit, it just aint worth it. in my eyes, even having the proper permit doesnt guarantee a hassle free ownership of the device. i dont think that telling a cop or a BATF agent that you dont "own" any proper fire arms would mean much to them.... afterall, according to them you already are in possession of an illegal device so why wouldnt you have some unregistered guns laying around?.... i know it sucks... but its how things are.

Please keep in mind that airgun silencers are NOT illegal. As cw said, law enforcement doesn't care as long as it's an airgun.

It'd be one thing if you were caught with just the silencer and no airgun. Then you could try to say "Oh, it's for my airgun". And that probably wouldn't fly. But if it is already mounted to your airgun, then OBVIOUSLY it's for use on your airgun.

It's not worth the hassle of arrest and trial, that's for sure. I've told this story before here, but my highschool friends dad was busted for (firearm) silencer possession in the late 70s, and that set into motion a chain of events which eventually led to his suicide last year. So clearly, bad things can come of it.

If given the option, I'd rather not pay uncle sam $200 for no reason.

But if I do pay it, I'm gonna' be showing off that sucker whenever I can.

This guy at the shooting range next to me had some full auto assault rifles and one had a suppressor on it, which he let me shoot. This is a very well run and staffed military shooting range, and as far as I know, nobody said anything to him about his weapons and any permits that he'd need. Of course, I don't recal seeing many cops or BATF agents there either...

LOL.. Such a lot of chin wagging over silancers. It happens on most US
based forums..Thank god I can stick one on and then take it down
to the cop shop to show them how kool it looks.

If I lived in the US and wanted to build a silencer for any gun or Airgun I would check with the BATF and pay the $200.

My experience is that cops don't care about helping you. They'll just tell you its illegal even if its not. It's just like your parents telling you that you can't do something just because they don't want to deal with it. There may be no reason why,but from their point of view it is just easier to tell you that you can't do it.

Plus, cops, from my experience....are not the brightest bulbs on the tree.

Seriously, I say "SCREW THE GOVERNMENT".

If they want my airguns, they can come get them.

If I want to make a silencer, the MAN will NOT slow me down, the same with most criminals who make silencers for (actual) illegal activities.

If I want to make a silencer, the MAN can not stop me, I can go into my garage and put together pvc pipe, weld some metal, and WHALLA! silencer! The same thing with explosives, I could make lots of stuff that goes boom in my garage and noone would notice, let alone care. Hell, I could open up the door and have neighbors watch me make silencers and bombs and they wouldn't understand what I'm doing.

Now we all (hopefully) know I don't make bombs and silencers, but I have just demonstrated I can (easily) do so, and the MAN cannot stop me.

If you want to make/own a silencer, be my guest, but don't tell me about it incase the man comes 'a knockin'. Infact, don't tell anyone, because it's illegal, and I advise to not make one for that reason.
