Didn't open a topic on this one yet. So here goes.

I got myself a used Relum in shooting condition, but with that said, it's shooting, not much more.

The Relum is a bit of an indoor rifle. In my country we have a game called "Sjoelen" which is a game in which you slide wooden "stones" down a smoothened slide, and you have to score points by sliding them into different "cells". A lot of Dutch people own these, and one can say, that if you have a place to store a Sjoel-slide, you can also store a Relum. If you are tired of Sjoelen, you grab the Relum and you start milking some roses with your family and friends, while enjoying a nice cop of hot chocolate, thee, or coffee. Yes, with this little rifle, you can do this in your living room.

With that useless amount of information about Dutch culture, I'll get to the point.

The Relum LG 427 is a Hungarian made rifle. It's quite crudely made, reliable up to a certain sense, and as far as I know, they're not being produced anymore. The trigger is comparable to a Chinese B-1 or B-2. It does the job, and you'll just have to live with it. ANYTHING is better.

I'm thinking it's at least 30 years old. It certainly smells like it. It's got a crack in the stock, has a few dead spiders and a lot of dust inside and the rear sight isn't what you call well made. It's actually quite crooked. The front sight, especially the corn (the pin that sticks up, corn right?) is mounted to high into the tunnel which makes it a bit hard to acquire target.

There isn't a lot of power from what I can tell. At 6 meters, it won't punch nice holes in cardboard, especially after a couple of shots. Cocking is rather smooth and easy, but with a lot of cracking noise.

Optically it's not ugly, but it's certainly not pretty either. My particular gun has had a re-spray, in stead of a re-blue. (Not that the original blue-ing is something to write home about).

The thing is though, that even though this isn't even a diamond in the rough (more a rough stone, that is hollowed out and filled with mud) it still has appeal. It's a perfect little Junior rifle with which I can teach my 7 year old Nephew how to shoot. Besides, now he's got something to look forward to.

What can I say, this is just fun to own, and good for practicing airgun smithing skills on, which is partly the reason why I bought it. Still have to open it up though. Will get back to that.

Yeah, that 'milking the roses' just doesn't sound good.

Relum had a '427'? Most of them had a name of some sort, like "Tornado", "Telly", etc.

Take some pictures for us!

Photo's are yet to be made. My camera is so bad it doesn't work during winter. It needs plenty of sunlight. It's hardly sunny right now.

Milking roses is the dutch expression of practicing the art of shooting, in other words, shooting these:

A Bullseye is referred to as "Rose" in dutch. Might explain a bit. Mr. Green
