ok...so if anything i smooshed the seal...now....how hard to get in there to replace it when it needs it...ill leave it alone for now but if i start to notice problems then ill need to repair...so hyall fill me in..how do i do that?

The P5 is advertised everywhere at 700fps. I don't know what they used to get that rating. I don't have one but it seems that most tests with RWS hobby pellets (7 grain) rate it about 550. That's where Pyramyd used to rate it, though I notice they to now show the 700 fps on their page.

k...well imgonna buy a panther this week too in .22 ill not let anyone dry fire that one! :-)

Good choice. Great gun right out of the box. RWS products
are usually long lived.

All RWS guns respond very well to proper lubrication and
even better to tuning.

Slavia, it's a 631 with less than 50 rounds through it. Very
nice. I'm going to have to get one, one of these days.

I spaced up the spring in my P5 for experimental purposes. I think it was about a half inch or so of spacing. I just added spacing until she wouldnt cock, and then took some out until she did cock. Lubed her up, and after she settled down some, I clocked 712fps with RWS Hobby pellets. That was her good record. A few months later, and a few hundred pellets later, she's gone down a little, to about 680~690fps, and thats where she stays. Whole lotta recoil though, much more so than stock. So there is a trade off...the higher power equals less accuracy in this case. A field target gun she is not. A formidable pest popper though. Those pistols are built like a tank...and she shoots like one too!!!

If you have the RWS "5G Magnum" P5 then it is rated at 700 fps by the manufacturer. Take that with a grain of salt, though.

Dry firing it five times shouldn't hurt it. You should be getting about 600 fps with a medium weight pellet. Get a chrony. If it's less than 500 fps you many have a problem.

It has a big spring in it for a pistol, obviously to get all that power RWS claims. I own one and wouldn't recommend dry firing it at all, but if it only happened five times in the life of the gun, maybe you got lucky the piston seal is OK. Wouldn't be a biggie to replace it.

Dry firing isn't good as the piston has no resistance, but I doubt it will do much damage in a few shots. Enjoy the airgun...
