I have another post here where I was looking at a Crosman 1077, but someone recommended a Hammerli 850 instead. I thouht that I had decided on the Hammerli 850, until I found and read about the Benjamin Discovery.
I live in Northern Illinois, so it does get cold here during the winter. But I don't know how much that really affects CO2 for short periods of time that I may be outside.
I guess the main thing that I like about the Hammerli is that it can hold more than one pellet. The Benjamin is about maxed out on the budget, so I don't think that I can go any father into the PCP line-up.
I found this: http://www.the850store.com/ Does this guy make the Hammerli into a PCP? I Has anyone here done business with this site before? I would be quite hesatint to send it off to him once I had it.
Thank you to all who reply to my craziness!!! |

| I am really not sure what to tell you about the hammerli 850, but they will have to pry my cold dead fingers off of my disco. I shoot it whenever I can and I'm not in very good shape. It about whips me for the day to pump that thing up which is why I do it in the evening before bed. I get 15-25 shots out of mine. It has to have some kind of regulator in it, because the first shot is as good as the last at least if you watch your gauge closely like I do. That gauge is why I love this particular PCP and you won't get me to say that about many guns. Hope this helps. |

The Benji Disco isn't regulated. It's still a fun little gun, even though it's rather small.
If you live in a colder area, then you indeed are better of with the Benji... |

I am leaning towards the Benjamin Discovery, but at the same time I like not having to load a pellet before each shot. I really don't know how big of a deal that would be.
I think picking up a pellet, turning it the correct way and loading it would get a bit old after a bit.....But I hope I'm wrong, I think that I like that Benjamin. I would imagine that there is some type of "pellet holder" that makes this process less cumbersome than I think....I hope so atleast.
I would love to hear from more Discovery shooters... |

If you think that gets old, wait til you have to load 6-10 pellets in a clip.....shoot, repeat.
Ill take single shot anyday. |

I think the Airmagnum has a better build quality, somehow. Might be between the ears, but I never had trouble with shooting the darn thing. The only problem is the stock that's made from Polyplatoicidolathywhatdahellophonypheer... You can't do anything with it because nothing sticks to the stuff... At least I can't...
The problem with the magazines all comes to it's good when you send pellets down range at 12 Fpe which is a good amount of power for most .177 rifles. |

What does this mean? I understnad the 12Fpe is the energy, but what do you mean by "the only problem is..."?
Which ever I decide to go with, I think I will go with the .22. Is there any reason I should or should not?
Also to the person who said they would take the Discovery any day over the 850, why is that?
Thanks to everyone again! |

Oh, the .22 is, in my opinion, only good up to 25 meters. the .177 has a much flatter trajectory, and in my case will be better for shooting targets up to 50 meters.
And I ment, that once you went trought the trouble of loading up the magazines, you'll be sure to have a a blast sending them down range. Lost in translation a bit there. |

i have a benji disco, but have never shot the airmagnum. i do however have other rifles that require loading magazines. and i can honestly say that in this respect (repeater or non repeater) i have no real preference between the two.
if it were my money to spend... i would go with the discovery (again ). basing that purely on the versatility of the disco compared to the airmagnum. the disco can be used with HPA or Co2... your not limited to the AirSource Co2 canisters like you would be with the airmagnum.
as for loading a single pellet at time.... its like anything else that you do over and over.... you find a technique that works for you. and over time... youll be able to do it one handed blindfolded hanging upside down.
my ONLY complaint about the disco is its length. i'm not exactly a "large" man, 5'10" and 150lbs, and this gun still feels too small. but that is easily addressed by adding a spacer to the butt pad. |

Go with the .22 discovery. CO² is weak and too temperature
sensitive and .177 is for targets and pistols.
Also, I had a look at both and I would rate the discovery
as having a better build quality. |

Why? Because it doesn't have a "plastic" stock or something? The Airmagnum is of a very decent quality, and it's cocking handle doesn't flip up after you shot it. Also, while the Disco isn't bad, it's certainly not a high end rifle.
Still, I'd go for the Disco in .22. You could also hook it up with CO2 if you like because it's a dual fuel rifle. |

I think you really need to ask your self this question. Which is more important to you. Is it the ability to make a quick follow up shot, OR the ablity to place that first shot on target with the first trigger pull?
Take gangs for example. Why do you often hear about Mac 10's being involved with drive by shootings. Well, they can shoot 10 gazillion rounds per minute. Pretty much spray-n-pray. You pull the trigger and hope you hit your target. Besides that they're cheap. Pretty much like the 1077 you asked about. |

Buy yourself an Airmagnum.
Jaxom, you have a pretty darn good point. I'm the type to go gung ho on cans with my Airmagnum. |
