I just found this fourm, and I am impresed with it. I am greatful to have found it.
I have a Crosman C11 which I love but am looking to pick up a rifle repeater (pellet). The price range I am looking is around $100. I would like to here what people think about the Crosman 1077.
The main use will be targets, but I would liketo find best and most versitle rifle in that price range.
Also, is what is a reputable place to order on the net?
Thanks!!! |

| That's the only repeater that you're going to get, unless you go for the QB78 Deluxe, which is a quite good. Even though the QB78 isn't a repeater. |

Welcome Marvin.
I suggest you NOT get the 1077. A 1760 or 2260 will do you better once you addiction sets in.
www.pyramydair.com is a very reputable source of airguns and accessories. They also have great deals on pellets.
Whatever gun you do get, make sure to buy a slew of different pellets with it. Some guns will shoot the "best" pellets all over, and the cheapest ones you can find the best. Start off with 4 tins of cheapo's, in .177 I'd get a tin of Beeman lubricated pellets, Gamo match, Crosman hunter, and RWS superdomes (not cheap).
If you WILL NOT be shooting anything that lives, buy only wadcutters, as these are generally less expensive and most available. If you plan to shoot the odd bird or chipmunk, wadcutters will work, but for squirrel and rabbit I would use round or pointed pellets.
Finally, DO NOT BUY INTO GAMO'S "VELOCITY IS THE BEST" AD CAMPAIGN. Supersonic "diabolo" pellets (the shape of 99% of airgun ammo sold today, hourglass shape) tend to tumble when passing the speed of sound, and become inaccurate. When they finally slow down and become subsonic they become even more unstable. For plinking, birds, chipmunks, and rats the most velocity you need is 650fps, with lightweigh pellets. |

One problem is your price range. I have a 1077 (I actually have 2 and a 1077W). It's fun, I enjoy it, but don't use it to shoot animals, it's a plinker. Your best bet for a mag. fed co2 gun that can be used for targets and hunting is RWS Hammerli 850. You can get it in .22 or .177. If you plan to hunt, go for the .22. This is a bolt action rifle not a semi-auto (the 1077 is actually a double action not a semi-auto)..but you can shoot without loading after each shot, and pre-load extra mags.
As for speed, it's only part of the equasion...figure power in ft. ponuds for gun use:

Welcome to the forum, Supermarvin76!
All the advice above is good.
You haven't listed your location - keep in mind that any CO2 gun is temperature sensitive, and will suffer greatly reduced power in cold weather. |

| I agree with the other guys about the crosman 2250 rifle. I have the 2300 which is basically a lot better rifle than the plain 2250. I have the longest barrel you can get, I bought both the camo and carbonfiber lookalike stocks. I got a really high quality crosspoint scope, and it's good on starlings from 35 yards. It was 200 dollars though as compared to about 75 dollars for the 2250. |

Good advice Fritz.
1760 is a great wee target gun but if you wanted to
do a bit of hunting aswell the 2260 may be the go.
As alway with CO2 guns its best you live somewhere warm. |

Thank you to everyone. I think that I will wait and go with the RWS Hammerli 850.
I need to sell my bow first though as I have never used it and it is just takiing up space. Also, I think that I will have to attempt to find a local dealer because pyramydair will not ship airguns over 700 fps or over .18 to Illinois.
Thank you again..... And please keep the tips coming if you have any. |

Oh, you're going to love that 850! They're a ton of fun, and be sure to order a lot of pellets, because that baby likes em. |

Great to have a fellow Illinoian here! I'm near chicago myself. Word of advice on our state's restrictions. While pyramid won't ship anything over 700 fps or over .18 caliber, other's will. Check around. Also, I have found that Sportsmart, Sports Authority and Dicks will sell .177 no matter what fps rating they are. Bit more difficult to get a .22. BassPro, Cabela's and Gander Mountain all go by the same rule you mentioned. Oh, since you're so close to the Wisconsin border, you could try stores over there as well. Unlike other rifles/guns... All they're gonna check is to make sure you're over the age of 18, there's (to the best of my knowledge) no restrictions on buying a pellet gun and transporting over state lines.
Oddtodd made an excellent point. The Crosman 2300 is a great option. It's basically Crosman's designation for their custome pistol or rifle. You can add and subtract features you want and Crosman will build it for you. Just go to their website and look under custom shop. If you do choose to go this route, I then suggest doing a search of the forums. There's some really great options for the 22xx series of crosmans pistol/rifles. These may not be a multi-shot rifle as you were looking for, but a darn good option.
One final note... If you're using money recieved over the holidays either in the form of a gift or bounus, just think, W2's will be coming out soon. Might concider waiting for you tax return and combining that with you holiday money. Once you get into the $200-300 range, your options REALLY widen!

The 1760 and 2260 are very nice. My only complaint is they feel rather light. You can easily fix that with a custom stock. Plenty of potential overall.
