I don't use a table and bags and the like to sight in. I know my accuracy would be a lot better but, I just never thought about getting my rifles that accurate. Maybe because I just use them to hunt and I don't compete against other shooters (other than my son). I want my rifles super-accurate now as I am trying for headshots on small game.
I was just curious as to how many of you use sighting bags and such? |

Nope, I'm just such a good darn shooter that I can do without a bag.
Haha, actually, I believe that shooting from a bag won't get you much more accuracy, because you will look into the sights/scope differently then when you're actually shooting.
You could practice on sillhouettes, they give you a better idea of where to aim in different hunting situations. You could just print pics of animals and mark where you want to hit them to get satisfying groups.
After all, shooting is about repeating what you did before. |

| Depends on my mood. Sometimes I'll sight-in using a rest of some sort (not necessarily bags) others not. Depends on my "theory" of the moment- i.e. will I be using the gun standing or be able to rest it on something when hunting or target shooting or whatever. Most times I do have it rested on/against something when sighting in |

I don't use it anymore as we used all the trash bags! Now I use a chair back with the case on it, almost simulates a hand for sighting in my springers so they shoot to the same point offhand. Also note the S. Miami must have bottle of mosquito repellent! I use bags for testing group sizes and pellets only. POI is different off sand bags so I don't zero with them. |

| I do use a rest, but not bags. I have yet to figure a way to have them handy in the field, but I can find a rest or use my bipod....Thus my choice. i don't shoot compition targets. |

I use towels on cinder blocks and then another one for the butt of the rifle to sight in. If I'm plinking I'll sit and lean back or maybe stay on the towels or stand up. It all depends, but to sight in I would definetly reccomend bags of some sorts.
Remember if you use a springer to be sure that your POI is not altered by the spring. My D34 is broken in well enough that I don't have to worry about it but a new springer might recoil too much. |

| i rest my elbow on the railing of the deck when sighting in. if i'm in the field hunting, i almost always go to a squatting position and rest my elbow on my knee. |

I'm of the same mind as Racer. I'll use a rest for sighting in and determining the more optimum pellet for a given rifle. This gives the benefit of the doubt to my rifle because the remainder of my shooting is multi-position off hand.

I just use a heavy mouse pad on the rail of my back porch...
Generaly... I pick a spot in the dirt about 30 yards out... Bring my scope in close and then move to the targets for the final... |

I use a regular plastic bag of rice from the grocery store, set on a solid platform--it's less than $2 for the bag of rice. It's not only cheap, but rice won't scratch the finish of your stock like sand does if any leaks out. The rice already comes in its own 'field bag', and a 2 lb. bag is very easy to cart around.
Oh yeah---they're very good for the purpose, too. You can nestle a little spot for your front hand down into the rice so it's very-stable, then shoot. (Golfers: It's like wiggling your feet around down into the sand for stability before a shot out of a sand trap). |

It depends on the power plant. Springers, I just hold by hand.
PCPs I always bench/pi-pod. |

Hmmmm....my wife has a cloth rice bag. She heats it in the microwave, and it keeps her feet toasty in bed. Maybe she won't notice it's gone...... |
