Any way you could give us dimensions on the spring in the 630 and/or the 631? I.e. inner diameter, outer diameter, overall length, number of coils and wire thickness?
I asked this awhile back, but no one seemed to know the answer! |

Oh dear, I was supposed to check it... Sorry, I'll open it up tommorow if I can find the time...
The 631 and 630 shouldn't have a different spring though. Maybe the owner had a different spring installed or something?
They're a dream to work on, aren't they? |

Thats rather strange. Did you chrono the rifles? With spring guide and top hat in mine, it hits 200 Mps (655) with rather light pellets. If there really is a difference in power... Maybe the springs were changed after a certain period, to retain more power, or something along that line. |

The 630 is doing 663 fps.
The 631 is doing 697.1 fps.
The TEX is doing 386.7 fps.
All three were chronied with 6.7 grain Beeman
laser pellets.
All three guns had never been opened up before
I received them.
The springs came different lengths from the factory.
None are broken in yet. |

I don't know if I would call it "for a living", but I have been
doing S&R and tuning for quite some time now. |

I believe that CZ sold a detuned gun in the Canadian market - maybe that explains the spring difference. Or maybe not, since the difference between the 630 and 631 is not that huge...
A 6.7 grain pellet at 697 FPS gives 7.23 FPE. I got my Slavia up to 625 FPS with 8.2 grain pellets, which gives 7.11 FPE. Right in the ballpark. Since then I have switched to a heavier grease on the spring. It only gives 603 FPS, but the twang is gone.
You're right, they are built like tanks. Except for the 631 trigger guard and that little button on the barrel catch - both plastic. Mine broke, and are aluminum now. |

You are correct that the Canadian market got "detuned" models- but they were all detuned to have an output of less than 500fps- if the one CW had in front of him was at 663fps- this doesn't explain it. There are still a few brand new detuned Slavia 630s to be had from Canada, but literally only a few: http://scopesandammo.com/storefront/product_info.php?cPath=25_40&products_id=159
A possibility is that at some point or other, Slavia just changed spring specs. The 630/631s have been built for many years and I'm sure at least a couple of "minor" changes ('minor' from a manufacturing/assembly point of view) were likely made here and there. |

Yes, production changes is a better explanation than my "Canadian spring" theory. It looks like the 630/631 goes back to about 1975 - lots of time for alterations.
