First off,I've had air rifles most all my life, since about age 7,Daisey lever cock, made similar to the Red Rider. Then an 880 with alm. pump handle,(shows my age)Crossmans 2100,66,760,and a Benjamin 397,it and the 2100 are great pumpers.
Couple a years ago I tried spingers,a Gamo Varmint Hunter .177,then a Crossman Quest 1000 .177 and then got a Beeman duel barrel combo last month from Wal Mart,HATED all three, could'nt hit nothingand the kick was hard.Maybe I just did'nt break'em in long enough,or it was me.I had the .177 on Beeman.

Couple a weeks ago I bought a new RWS 48 in .22 caliber cuz I might try to do some huntin with it.Says it shoots 900 fps, found out later reading reviews they shoot slower than advertized as do alot pellet rifles.First started off with left over Daisey .22 wadcutters then got some RWS Superdomes.
I may not want to know the acual fps of my RWS 48,might be dispointed and want something else with more power, like the 350 or 460.but I like the 48.Have'nt shot long distance yet, only hit a pecan @ 90 yds.(kiddin).I been shooting .75''- 1.5'' @ around 50-60 feet proped against a door jam.
I put a a CenterPoint 3-9x32 scope on it and it seems to shoot pretty accurate,I may take it back to W.M. and order a CenterPoint 3-9x50 from airgundepot.

Read that rabbits, squarls, birds and other small critters can be taken at 50-70 yards,How much practice does it take to shoot that good?
I mean hitting a rabbit should be fairly easy, but a head shot for a clean kill seems too hard.

I think the RWS 48 would make a good small game huntin air rifle, the more I practice,I get better.

Sorry so long,

The solution to a kick should be shouldering.

Anyway, you can read a bit about the Diana 48 here:

Real men use springers.

Stewartlittle - welcome to the forum.

As far as "going easy on you" - worry not; they're a great bunch of folks. When I joined I didn't have to adjust my medication much at all.

Tell us more about your arsenal.

Well,I only have 3 now,my new RWS 48,the Benji .177 and the third is a no namer, there are no markings on it at all that I can see. It's a .22 caliber I got at a truck load sale for $20,I forgot to mention that one.It never was worth shootin. The rear site messed up and the front broke off when it fell over or I thru it down, can't member which one.Maybe shot 400-500 fps,it was slow.

This is my idea about the cheap one,see what you think- Bore it out alittle to fit a Gamo shotshell in it and have me an air shotgun. I'm an office manager at a plastic molding place, but we have drill presses, lathes and such,so I pretty confident I cant do it.

As for the other springers,I returned them,Gamo to Bass Pro and the others to Wal Mart. But I think this 48 is a keeper.

I gave the Crosman 66 to my dad and the 2100 to my brother and he really likes it,and the 760 was stolen.

The air shotgun sounds interesting. There are a lot of comments about the Gamo shotgun on this forum - just do a search.

As long as you are considering major surgery, maybe a tune to increase power would be in order. The advantage you have is that if the patient dies on the operating table, you're not out much.

Welcome Stewart Exclamation

I think you will find AirGunHome the best place to find nice people and good info Exclamation

I suspect you will find the RWS 48 a real "keeper". You may find that better accuracy is attained (with practice) by using what is known as an "artillery hold" or loose grip at the forearm and moderate grip at the pistol grip.

Best regards,

Amigo

I think you are right, and you're not the only one thats mentioned that. The other springers I had I held firmly against my sholder, that might be why they were not as accurate. But they still seemed to kick harder that the 48.
I still change the way I shoot it but I balance it on my right hand and barley touch my left sholder, that seems to give me the shots.

What he said & Welcome!

Sounds too simple but true... I started implementing this and have tightend up my 40 yard groups to less than 1.5"...

Just to add... light on the shoulder too... The grip is for control and the rest are just that... Rests, points of contact to stedy your shot... Take your time and breathe...

I tell everyone... to get good you have to practice. I use a 1077 for plinking just because it is a repeater... Not a target or hunting gun... something to have some good cheap fun and practice with.

You will be supprised how much better your groups are after you done some speed shooting for practice.
