Older gun- "Made in Hungary" is only identifier on it besides a serial number. Buddy of mine fished it out of the trash years ago- and dug it up to have me look over. Apparently it was working about 15 years ago- but the leather seals are all dried out now- but before attempting to remedy the situation I'd like to figure out what exactly it is.
The rifle is a .177 caliber and overall length from barrel end to butt is 36 3/8"
Any ideas? |

Update:
Still don't know whose/what it is (help!)- but after cleaning it out and lubing the seals and the joints- it works A-OK- just a bit of noise on spring compression which hopefully will go down after the oil moves around a bit and it gets used more. |

Well- I answered my own question. After digging around, seems that this is a Relum gun, the "877 LP22". Based on the parts diagram of the mechanics- this is definetly the gun- although the stock is slightly different:
http://www.chambersgunmakers.co.uk/Relum%20plans/Relum%20822%20plan.htm
Anyone out there know anything about Relum guns (they also made other models called a "Tornado" a "Telly 200" and a "Taurus") ?
I'm also wondering- as this gun is at least 25 years old- who imported these things to North America? |

After doing more research- turns out this type of gun, Relums had four models of guns- a "Telly" a "Taurus" a 422 and the 822 which were mass-produced and sold as a "low end" product through mass-retailers and hardware stores in the UK and Canada (I guess the serial number on this one being in the 60,000-range would support this). Apparently they are still not too desireable, as the "going rate" at gunshows in Canada for them is $20-80 depending on condition and caliber (a working, cosmetically-good .22 is apparently the "high end" at $80.00 CDN).
In any event- apparently they all shot at about 600fps- which this one seems to be doing (ballpark) with 7.9gr .177 pellets- and the aim is good. So good in fact- it puts virtually all modern out-of-the-box Crosman products to shame. They also have all-wood stocks, solid steel construction and leather seals- meaning a "modern" equivalent gun would likely be over $200.00 new.
So- is it a "keeper"? Maybe- but more as a novelty, a "training" gun- or something that you grab running out the door to eliminate the squirrel dropping nuts on your roof. |

Well- I figured this gun was about 30 years old- and there haven't been any Woolco's around here for at least 25 years.
Overall, not a bad gun- seems like this one has alot of recoil compared to its power output, however. |

I had a Relum just like that model, it was a last fling before I got married in 1963, the only diffrence was that mine was .22 it was quite powerful I seem to remember with a hell of a kick back, also it had a steel sholder plate which did not make things any better.

I believe I had/have the same gun. It is still at my childhood home and hasn't been fired in 20? yrs. I am pretty sure it was purchased at Woolco or KMart . I will pick it up on my next visit as I plan on rebuilding it. The noise you are experiencing on spring compression may never go away, mine did and I'm sure still does that. |

WOW ERIC you do take this seriously.
REDSTER I pulled that gun out of a scrap heep near MIDLAND, Ontario about 18 years ago.
I also have a similar model in pieces, which was aquired by my sisters boyfriend at about the same time.
Interesting to hear about this piece of garbage ive been storing all these years. The wood was in pretty good shape is why i held onto it.
Just waiting for a day to mess with it and along comes ERIC whom i met about 20 years ago in highschool. |

Well, I broke out the new Chrony today to test it, and a couple of guns. This Relum shot consistently 526fps to 540fps over 30 shots- which is Ok- not great, but Ok. Definetly alot of recoil for the output, however. |
