About a week ago, I was able to pick up a new scope for my 1077. I was always getting headaches trying to hit things with that teeny tiny tasco that came with my 1077. So I picked up a Gamo 4x32.

So I printed up a bunch of sighting in targets. I started out just like I did with the tasco and what has been recommend here and there on the net, with my target only 10 feet away. At this point I'm only trying to get the hits within the red circle of the target. I only have (2) 12 round clips for my rifle, so I figure if I can get all 24 within that circle I'm doing pretty good.

After serval sets of only 12 rounds each. And with top adjusting knob maxed for "up", and the side adjuster maxed out to the right, the best grouping I could manage was 3/4 to the left of center and 1.5" below center. Heck! I was doing better at 30 feet away with the tasco job!

Please don't tell me I spent money on a junky scope! Well, if I did, I guess it's best to hear the truth. I haven't done a crowning on this rifle yet, because as I mentioned in another thread, I'm waiting until I have a back up, just in case I screw this up taking it a part and all. But surely, a bad crown won't put it off that far! Suggestions?

If you were doing OK with the previous scope- it's not the rifle.

You may not have the scope mounted on the rifle straight- thus the inability to adjust it. Have you loosened the rings on the scope tube itself and rotated it a bit to ensure it isn't cocked in the rings themselves?

Yeah, I was sorta thinking it might not be the scope, but the person (me) that installed it. When I was still buying rimfires, I usually had the gun shop do the intial install and lazer bore sighting for me. It was free of charge.

To get this set up right, I was thinking of grabing a chunk of 1" thick doll rod, long enough to extend over the barrle, just to make sure it's true right to left. Not sure how to correct for up/down.

In't it just the gun that's not really accurate?

A friend of mine gets raffles holes with his Gamo 4 X 32 on a HW30s. It's been on there for ages, so it shouldn't really be the scope.

Now I feel really stupid! Last night, I wanted to adjust the scope forward a bit. I felt a bit awkward during that first few rounds. Like I had to back up how my cheek rested on the stock more so then normal. When I went to do this, I found I had left all the top screw mounts loose! So I adjusted it so I could get a good target picture from a more comfortable postion.

With the top mount screws actually tightened properly, I'm getting much better results. About 3/4" above center and 1/2" to the left. The slightly high is fine, since it's so close that's about where I want it since I'm looking for a zero around 10-15 yards.

Note about Gamo scope: While this is a fair low end scope for the price (I paid less then $15 on sale), there's one thing I really don't like about it. And that's how you adjust windage and elevation. I've had 2 Bushnell and I believe one Ziess scope before, and to adjust any of those, you could use either a multi-tool or if you didn't have one of those hand a coin to turn the adjustments. You can't do that with this Gamo! They have this hour glass shaped piece of plastic that you have to try and grip with your finger nails to turn the adjustments. I can see how someone would be tempted to use a small pair of needle nose pliers to turn these adjustments, and if you do, you'll strip that piece of plastic in no time.

You got to apply pressure from above, like pushing into them and then turn. It's a bit dodgy, biut it's not that bad I think, but I agree it's not ideal. For that cash though, I guess it's not really that big a deal. Once it's sighted in you're not suposed to touch the adjusters anyway.
