I stayed with a relative who lives just down the road a piece during the blackout at my place. He had power but no cable--hence no Internet at his house, either.
The local Post Offices were either completely-closed--or had issued notices to all parts of the country that they would 'hold all mail' during the last several days---so I was told.
Thus, between no electricity (lights, A/C, and tool power), Internet outage, and lack of some of the normal shipping options, the tuning business came to a screeching halt around here.
Worth saying: It could have been much worse. Had the hurricane been above a category 2 as originally predicted, and or struck a slightly different path, this town could have been closed down with no electricity, water, or phone for at least a month--I'm not kidding. Food would have also gotten scarce, and that can lead to some tense and/or dangerous situations.
The eye of the storm tracked across the entire length of Cuba, and the resulting weakening of the storm from being over that much land thus spared our Houston butts much worse consequences. Saying "thanks" to Cuba for taking some of our misery would seem cruel. Let's just say it went how it went--and may the poverty-stricken people who live there be able to re-group and recover ASAP.
The TV news tonight said that the POs in the greater Houston vicinity are due to resume normal operations tomorrow, with the exception of a few of them that are in very-damaged locales.
My A/C is on (while many other people are still in the dark at this point), and I'm commencing to get with the 'drilling, tapping, machining, hammering and guide fitting' again--and thus shipping things as I get them done. |
