I bought a nice Diana Model 35 Air gun for $20.00 at a yard sale this morning.
I'm dying to try it out.
On the top of the gun it's identified as a Diana Mod. 35. On the left side the writing says Made in Germany and 10 68.
Nowhere that I can find does it give the caliber.
Is it .22 or .177?
Thank-you

The only dumb thing about your question is that we won't be able to tell very well either.
Look for 4.5 or 5.5. If that is'nt on there, see which pellets fit. 4.5 (.177) pellets will fall streight trough. Don't try poking your barrel with anything else then lead!
It's a nice gun, the 34. I think 20 bucks may be a real bargain.
Hope you can post us some pictures of the gun! Would be great! |

It's a model 35.
Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure now that it's a .177
All the references I saw online referred to Model .35s that were .22 cal. I was unsure if there was such a thing as a Model 35 in .177.
I thought maybe the 34s were all .177 and the 35s were the .22, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I'll try to get a photo up in the next day or 2.
Again, Thanks

.177 is the size of a bb. Also, you could measure the barrel width with a ruler. If the diamter of the hole is less than 2/10ths of an inch, then it is .177. If it is more, then it is a .22. |

A 35 is still a nice rifle! Anyway,
I think it would be best in .177. At almost 12 Foot Pounds, that will give a pretty decend amount of power and velocity for a gun of that age. Off course, in .22, it might be a bit more fun to shoot. I'm not sure if there are still parts available, but I bet the gun will need a good tune up to get it going the way it should go.
I'm very interested in the pictures and I can't wait! |

A photographer I'm not.
This gun appears to have a 2 stage trigger. There's 2 screws located above and in front of the trigger.
There is a front hooded sight and the sights at the rear where the barrel breaks are height and windage adjustable.
I'm going to need to find a basic scope of some sort for this gun. My old eyes ain't what they used to be.
She's got a few dings that you'd expect from a 40 year old gun but I have a few dings too and I'm a little older.
The worst part of the gun cosmetically is the butt pad. It looks like it grew to someone's carpet while standing in a corner. I'd like to replace it.
I think we're going to have a lot of fun.
I'm sure I'll be asking quite a few more questions.
Thanks in advance.

| It being a classic and all, I'd be more tempted to refurbish it and just use the open sights. I'd also be curious to see how powerful it was after all these years. Regardless, if it still works, it can be used as a plinker even in the conditioin it's in. And for $20, the investment pays for itself right off the bat. |

Again I thank all of you for the great information you've given me. I've determined it's .177 and appears to function very well. I've lubricated what needs lubrication and the old rifle is smooth as silk.
As I mentioned, as much as I hate to, I really do need to put a scope on this rifle to enjoy it. I have a combination of nearsightedness and farsightedness (wait 'til you hit middle age ) that makes it very hard to use open sights.
I'll be using this rifle for mostly plinking and a little squirrel control. I don't want to put much money into a scope and rings setup for that purpose. Is there anything out there in the $50.00 (+/-) range that you guys might recommend for my purposes?
Thanks,
hud |

Go with a Leapers 3-9 x32, great scope, good price! I had one on my B26 and it's great! Keep it on 6 power and sight it in for 20 yds and the mil dots will work out to approximately:
1st dot down: 10yds/25yds
2nd dot down: 5/30yds
3rd dot: 35 yds
4th dot: 40 yds
Or close to that! |

My front sight looks like this.
I unscrewed the barrel that keeps the insert in the sight. When the insert came out it was in pieces. Now I'm stuck. I can't aim.
I'm still planning on scoping this rifle, but I need a new insert. Do you guys have a source for the inserts? I didn't see anything at Pyramydair.
Thanks again

Service parts- i.e. the sight, will likely have to come directly from the Diana reps. in the USA- i.e. Umarex.
