Last Saturday I was at one of my airgunning buddies place. His name is Jan, and he started his Airgun life years ago with a 630 too. After that, he didn't touch it for years, and he decided that it was time for a more adult airgun. He bought a HW97K. He also got a HW30S to go with it later. He tuned them both, quite succesfully, himself. A natural born Airgun tuner.

Off course, since he lives in the next village towards the city and being a member of the same church (free-reformed) and forum as me (luchtbuks.net, dutch airgun forum) it didn't take us long before we got to know each other a bit better. I even had him come along to some shoots that he so desperately wished to visit.

Anyway, long story short, we became pretty good buddies and last Saturday we were playing around with airguns in his back yard. We were kind of planning to tune my Slavia 630, and thus we opened (kids can do the laundry) it up and took measurements of the spring, piston, etc. We decided both that it should need a top hat, and a spring guide. The next thing he does, is walk up to his Lathe, and within one hour, my Slavia went up from 160-70 Mps to 200 Mps, and hugely decreased lock-time. It's wonderfully quick now.

Before the tune it was capable of doing better groupings then Jan's (shortened) HW30S. After that, it seemed that it didn't influence the accuracy at all.

In any case, in the words of a famous Dutch tuner, named Koos: Slavia's tend to respond very well to a good tuning.

One more thing I'd like to add: Thanks Jan, you're the man! Mr. Green

Broommaster,

Very nice. The manual says 170 m/s:

http://www.czub.cz/navody/cz630-1_en.pdf

My 631 was about the same. I polished the innards and spread apart the spring guide slightly (original seal and spring) and got 190 m/s with silicone grease, but still some buzz. I went to a heavier moly grease, and dropped to 184 m/s, but really smooth.

It's a joy - too bad they were never that popular here.

Did you by any chance take pictures? My 631 wants to see. Family, you know.

And to save people calculator headaches:
160 m/s = 525 FPS
170 m/s = 558 FPS
184 m/s = 603 FPS
190 m/s = 625 FPS
200 m/s = 656 FPS

Oh, it hasn't changed on the outside. Mr. Green I could ask Jan to make a how to guide.

I was mostly curious about the top hat and spring guide.

I am jealous. I want a Slavia.

Oh, and 190 mps = 603.674540682 fps which rounds out to 604 fps
and 190 mps = 623.359580052 fps.

Let's be accurate, gentlemen.

Sadly, not only has the Slavia never caught on in the U.S., Canada- which had access to all the Slavia airguns is now being cut off. Seems the importer of the entire line has decided that with the huge increase in the value of the Czech Koruna over the last year or so, the airguns are too expensive for the market to bear. As such- the only Slavia still available (and for how much longer?) in Canada is the 630. 631's and 634's are already gone.

O.K., O.K. - You are quite correct. The batteries on my slide rule were running low.

I would recommend a Slavia to anyone. Seven or eight years ago I wandered into Cabela's with some Christmas/birthday money in my pocket, and there it was, on clearance for $80.00 U.S. I had no clue what I was buying, but I lucked out.

In my experience, the 631 has two "defects." One is the plastic trigger guard (mine cracked under the rear mounting screw), and the plastic barrel catch knob (mine broke off after six years of steady use). The 630 doesn't have this (am I correct, Broommaster?), but the stock is smaller. CZ told me the parts are available; just wait 6-9 months for them to come from the Czech Republic. I made my own. Considered next to the gun's good points those two defects are very acceptable (and correctable).

Don't put in a stonger spring man, that ruins the behaviour and performance! Shocked

And Mr. Slavia, the 630 indeed is smaller, but also contains no plastic at all.
