Now that summer as finally arrived and Co2 is working at it’s best I took my Winchester 94 out for a bit of ratting the other day, the place I shoot is open ground and farm buildings. Using the peep sight I made for the Winchester last year which is zeroed at 20m, then no problem but adjusting to a different range is fiddly, so I decided to make a new peep sight but one that can be adjusted quickly and this is the result.

The old sight was adjusted by slackening off a lock ring and screwing the base either up or down depending what range you needed and re locking it up again. The new sight is adjusted by slackening off the peep outer ring and sliding it to the range you want and tightening it up again, this method is very fast especialy when I get a scale engraved on the side of the sight, with the new sight a change of pellet to AA Fields and a boost in the output to 750 fps I’m managing 6mm groups at 20m, I call it my fun gun but really it is a serious piece of kit.

The original sight

The new sight plugged into the old base

I have to engrave a scale down the side

I still have to polish and blue the sight but I'm to busy playing with it. Smile

Al

Very nice, Alstone. It looks way better than one of those side-mount Williams sights. Could you post a picture of the sight base and azimuth adjustment? I'm curious how you engineered them.

The details are somewhere on this site Slavia but I can't find them! Anyway here they are.

The base screws on top of the existing action support, lateral adjustment is done by the cross screw which moves the sight base block side to side, the block is kept shaking about by a strong leaf spring underneath, this spring also locks the sight in the up or down position.

Here are Al's posts from last year on his peep sight design:

-and good deal there Al- the new version looks more "sophisticated" than the prior version, which was great in its own respect.

You're good. I wish I could buy one of those rifles just so I can ask you to make me one of those for a rear sight. Mr. Green
