I'm making some repeater mechanisms for my .22 Disco and my soon to be 2260. They are for .22 lead balls only. I would like some feed back from you guys as to would anyone else have interest in one of these mechanisms. Don't confuse the 2 differnt brands (that I know of) of .22 balls with that wrong diameter Gamo .177 ball. All those are are size BB lead bird shot (to small). The H&N and the Lobo .22 balls are the right size for .22 airguns. Balls are not as accurate as lets say a CR prem. But fine for hunting or plinking. Danial Boon was known for his hunting prowess and his go to gun was a muzzle loader that shot .25 balls. That being said These things will work a lot better than fumbling around to load a pellet while your squirrel is getting away. Also would be good when you didn't get as close as you should have an wounded that rabbit and need a quick follow up shot. Or for just plain fun plinking one after another. Please give me some feed back as to if I should make more than just a couple of these ball repeater duehickys. PS you can still shoot your favorite pellet single shot.

Have you tried it single shot yet? How did it work?

Conventional wisdom would say that you would need a lot shallower rifling (more inches per turn) to stabilize a short, stubby projectile. Plus, you would lose the drag stabilization of a pellet skirt.

But on the plus side, it sure would be easier to feed a round ball than a skirted pellet. Check out the Lewis & Clark airgun - they had such a thing.

Yes Slavia, You know what you are talking about, But You usually do Cool The twist in conventional modern pellet riffles is to fast (1 in "16 ?) for most excellant ball shooting. But I have shot these .22 Lobo balls in my Disco, Talon,RWS 350 and maybe some others. I wish I could be more specific on which did what with them. I will say in agreement with you that some shot them terrible. But I noticed the Disco was less fussy about them if you did your part. And that was the stroke of luck I had. It also happened to be the best IMHO cantedate for home modding a repeater mechanism for out of the whole bunch. If this simple straight forward mechanism is a hit, folowing your thinking it would be wise to find a correct barrel for the job. I bet Crosman dosn't make a slower twist barrel for their 22xx airguns. You say a more shallow riffling is better for balls also ? Thanks for replying Slav. Your opinion has value to me.

Oh, I forgot to answer your first question. I have tested the concept with clumbsy hold this while I'll do that method. It sure seems to work in a way that would allow single shot action from the right side of the Disco.. And if it dos'nt it can be tweaked without rendering it inoperable to allow it easily.

Could I get you to convince my wife and teenage son of that?

I'm not trying to tell you not to do it - just adding information to the pot. History is full of people that did things that were not possible. Plus, the "coolness" factor sometimes supercedes practical concerns. And this would be cool.

So with that proviso, here's the formula for relating twist to projectile:

And the Lewis & Clark airgun:

Well, One can't make any headway dreaming about exotic mods. with his buddys on the forum all day. I actually spended all day Sunday and part of the night making a working model of said Diso .22 ball repeater machanism. And guess what ? It works just like I thought it would. The only limitation if you can call it that,is it won't shoot Kodiaks single shot."But" Unless you have a tricked out Disco .22 they won't push Kodiaks worth a poop anyway. Crosman Prems. go right in though. And that was important to me, and I believe others. The only problem I see is it was a very tedious and painstaking process to getter to completion. But, any prototype worth a salt usually is. If I can't mechanise the process to speed things up, I won't be doing these for others at no $30-$50 as I have already claimed like a nit. Next step is a barrel selection that is specialized for shooting balls. But it already shoots around 1 inch groups at 30 + yrds.. Only need another barrel if it is your/my nature to be precise about things.Already OK for hunting. Thank you Slavia for your knowledge and sorces. I'm shore it will help in keeping the screw up factor to a minimum. Smile I just might be the first person in the U.S.A. to have a repeating Disco Question
