I know about the "piss-bow" parabola created by airguns, but I am amazed by how dramatic it is for my talon, as well as my other springers. Firearms have a less pronouced trajectory since it is dragged out over a hundred yards or more, but airguns have a truncated and exagerated parabolic trajectory.
Case in point. I knew my gun was zero'd at 10 yards. I set the target out 15 yards and it was then shooting nearly 3 inches higher. I was amazed that only 5 yards had an effect of 3 inches on my POI! I think that my scope is sighted in way downward since it is has high relief mounts. The further I shoot, the pellet gets closer to its apex in the trajectory and goes way above where the scope is sited to.
It makes it so hard to be accurate when even slight changes in range make such dramatic differences in your POI. Then you factor in angles and you have even more to consider. |

On the Talon ss the scope sits fairly high, and on short range targets there will be a large poi differance over a short range.

My Condor only drops 5 inches at 100 yards. I find
that more than an acceptable range to work with.
Also, the more you shoot, the more accustom to the
gun you will get and your zen with it will improve (you
will develope a feel and unity with it).
How many rounds have you put through your Talon
by now? |

I've probably only put a 100 rounds through my Talonss at this point. Doesn't seem like much compared to the standards of others here who go through an entire tin in a day, but I don't target shoot that much. I generally just shoot a few rounds every couple days in order to keep in tune with where my rifle is hitting. Other than that I just keep her under my bed on standby for whenever I need to break it out to shoot a bird.
I wish I had an area to go shooting and setting up targets at different distances, but unfortunately I don't right now.
5 inches does seem like a lot, especially for smaller targets, but like you said, if you align your chi or whatever with your rifle then it becomes an extension of you. |
