I know a couple of you wouldn't take your time or money on this one, but it was a nother good deal. $65.00 at a flea market I went to this weekend. And believe it or not. It's a blast to shoot. the targets were shot at 5m, 10m, 15, and 20m. There were a couple of black crows in the field next to the house, but I just couldn't take one out. I think at 15-20m it really could have taken one. It's a ( GAMO SHADOW EXPRESS ) and shoots .22 cal and the shotgun type shell also. Really a blast and worthy to be in my collection. And it looks and shoots like new. I think it is the GAMO VIPER EXPRESS's little brother. As far as hunting with the rifle. It basically looks something like this: 5 yards: 90% kill ratio 7 yards: 60% kill ratio 10 yards: 20% kill ratio beyond 10 yards: rapidly toward 0% I think due to the spread of the pattern and the low velocity of such light projectiles, the lethality of this gun is limited to only close ranges. You'd need to be right on top of a crow to do any damage to it with an airshotgun. Although I'm curious as to the effect of it on birds in flight. Never tried to shoot one while its flying. How is the power from the .22cal side. I know my GAMO VIPER is deadly. but it's not the express just the VIPER. I still think you got a good deal on it, and you are right the power plant is the same as the Viper Express. It cost $249.00 here, in Indiana. It's accurate enough to hit them at close range but it doesn't seem to be very powerful. Regardless of the fpe, a slow large pellet will not penetrate to the vitals. The other day I made a "double load" shot. I took the shot pellets from one shell and combined it with another. There are 20 pellets per shell, so this load had 40 in it! I waited for a perfect opportunity to use it and last night that happened. I had a bird in my sights at only 4 yards from my window! I took aim and it stopped and looked at me. I fired just in time because it was about to spook. The gunshot sounded like a .22 rimfire. It was so loud and deiseled (but it deisels normally anyway). The bird certainly took a dose of it, but it didn't get as messed up as I thought it would. I had to go finish it off afterwards. But that thing took 40 shots at very close range. Even if the velocity was dramatically reduced, it still was potenet. Amazingly, the bird ended up having not one pellet lodged in its breast meat. _________________ I done been assisted by the trees and rivers. It's more of a wounding gun though. And if you can slow up the animal enough to get a follow up shot then its pretty effective. I'd like to see what it does to a tree rat at close range. That will solve your problem. Perhaps making it look like a conventional side-by-side and give it two barrels. Have 10 pellet shots instead of 20, but make them weigh twice as much. Or make a PCP version of it and make it pump action. The idea of this type of gun is great...considering shotguns are a great invention and very versatile and useful to most hunters. But the severe limitations of the Gamo air shotgun make it little more than a toy for most hunters. _________________ I done been assisted by the trees and rivers.
