You get in the car, hit the wipers, they make that intial noise but then don't really move. Then they break lose and only wipe off the loose snow, leaving the rough sheet of ice encrusted to the windshield (that is of course impossible to see through). Then you sit there rubbing your hands together blowing into them while waiting for the car to warm up and the windshield to defrost. Then its go time. Now you have the privilege of driving 10 mph down the city streets wondering if even that is 'too fast' only to find out, yep, it was. Then your sliding at a 45 degree angle through a stop sign hoping that you hit something soft as opposed to another car or phone pole. 2 1/2 hours and only 20 miles later you are at your destination. Now you get out walk up to the house. Kick out the loose snow off your shoes and then take them off. You've already stepped in the melted water from the other people who took their shoes off in the entry way, so you might as well take your socks off too. Now the only remnants of your trip are the damp ends of your pants which also got snow on them and are now wet. Fun stufff. But at least you only have to spend half your life dealing with that when you live up north. The other half is the muggy, sticky summers. And how about when it gets so cold the tires flat spot from sitting overnight. For a couple of blocks you feel like you're in the Fred Flintstone mobile. And it never fails - you get all bundled up to face the world, and when that cold blast hits your face your kidneys rebel. When you are at home you think "Ohh crap .. don't want to go to work today.." but somehow when you reach office.. you think "Awee Sh*t don't want to go home today.. " I have experienced that dread of going to work, but I've never been afflicted by the "going home" malady.
