Since I am no longer in denial… I admit it… I am hooked and I am choosing to embrace the fact that I have AGAS…
So… Here we go again…
After goofing off with Project Sniper with out the butt stock on it… now I am all fired up for “Project Charger”.
Project 2250 Charger is loosely based on Ruger’s 10/22 Charger…
Just one more victim of the Left... The Ruger can not be sold in California... It has to do with the clip being in front of the trigger and being considered a pistol....
Most would just go for a shroud… but being who I am… I got to push the limits…
The first thing on the project that has to be tackled… BULL BARREL!
I had to put my thinking cap on to pull off this one...
I did not want to use a breech riser as I want to keep this one nice, tight and no barrel bands... She is a floater… So I will continue the 7/8” relief on the bottom just far enough to clear the gas tube and end cap.
What we got here is a 11.5” x 0.75” O.D. .22 cal heavy 1.5 lb steel upper end monster!
1 lb 8 oz of barrel and breech. I don’t expect any barrel harmonics issues…
To finish the upper… I still have to do some mill work… My 7/8” ball & Dove Tail end mills are here and the mill attachment for the lathe will be here tonight. Got to start some where…
The Bull Barrel plan:
Fluting the barrel to lighten it up a tad and add some structure to it.
Continuing the dove tails from the breech another 2.5” for a nice single piece scope mount.
Hand bluing to finish it off…
These are photos of day one…
It is reverse tapperd to snug right up to the breech...
For thoes that are wondering... Is it one piece or two? It is two... Same process as re-lining a barrel... It takes a 12 ton press to make a frog butt tight fit...
So ends Day One of the project... |

Hey Eric,
Either laminate or solid walnut...
I have a 2260 build coming up that requires the pistol trigger group so I am swapping.
I have been spending any spare time I have getting my wood working tools out of moth balls and organized... So am going to attempt the stock on my own. If my attempts fail... Hopefully Michael who did my Sniper stock...
I miss wood working… I have not had a nice wood project in the last couple of years… |

I realized that I did not answer Eric's question and did the edit...
Basicly... the jury is still out... I have plenty o' time to decide... I vowed to only work on this project 1 full day every other week... Let's see if I will last.... |
