guys,

when i bought my macarri spring for my gamo i was told i'd max @ 930fps with 7.9 crosmans. mine has factory original seals. i took it to mac-1 and tim did the install. he opted to only use 1 not 3 preload washers for accuracy and consistency. though it's not broken in yet (maybe 500 rnds through it) my chrono #'s are the same as the old worn bent spring of low 800's with 7.9, which this gun loves. cocking is very stiff and consistant and firing/lockup is so smooth. i have no hold sensativity in my hands.

my question. would all preload washers hurt the old seals?
would all 3 washers be less accurate?
why 1 not 3?

gathering info.

understand, i STILL consider my self a novice and when i tuned my gamo i knew nothing of this awesome website!....

as much as i will bash gamo for their ethics.... they put out really good "need to be tuned" products...

thanks

Springer’s have a sweet spot and if you can find it the gun will be more consistent in it’s accuracy and hold sensitivity, My TX is at the moment set to the UK maximum of 12 flb output and it shoots well, if I drop the output to 10.5 flb then the gun is more stable less hold sensitive and shoots smoother, all for the loss of 1.5 flb, so it’s a compromise between power and consistency, as for the seals it makes no diffrence. Take your pick? Question

Al

Sniper, I think Tim did that to tune it more than power it. The gun SHOULD be much smoother with less preload and less things can go wrong with it, all to make your gun shoot better (although not as powerfully).

Maybe adding the other two washers will give you the higher power, but it may not be as good a shooter.

Sniper:

Three washer/spacers may have put the spring too close to coil bind. Once many compression springs near the coil bind point, they actually loose power as the pitch angle get closer to zero.

Also, as a compression spring reaches its bind point or stacks its coils, the failure rate rises dramatically.

Mac-1 is a tuner who knows his business- probably why you hired him instead of doing it yourself. Had you asked him, he probably would have explained.

thanks guys that's what i kinda thought. of course kanyon the wise a$$ has good ideas!

i want the time to break this thing in (hard to do with 3 other new guns, division of labor Laughing ) right after the tune i had it on the chrono and spreads were as high as 50fps. spreads with the old bent, worn spring were maybe 6-8 fps. i assume things will settle down. i just can't get away from that damned steroid!!!!

it is veeeery smooth. zero thwang, actually pretty quiet. post tune i think i've killed around 15 rats. mostly with crosman destroyers. they go flying! Twisted Evil
