I stand by what i said a silencer is a waste of time on a springer . |
Well all I can say about that is when I have been out shooting with my mate, (He shoots a HW97 running at 11.3 fps in .22), also he shoots bunnies and I have seen him shoot at a group about 30 yards away, take one out and the rest run off, later with a silencer fitted also at the same spot he took 4 bunnies out of five, before the last one got wind of what was going on and scampered off.
Possibly you don’t realise the usefulness of a silencer owing to the Canadian gun laws and not being able to use them. In the UK hundreds of thousands of air gunners can’t all be wrong, also the people living around me all know I shoot airguns, and occasionally I will fire a gun without a suppressor fitted especially when setting up a silencer ( checking the poi ) and the phone will go off and someone will ask me to keep the noise down, so I just put the silencer back on and no more problems, and this is all practical experience.

When I was experimenting with the Patriot, I could reduce the
sound quite a bit more by inserting a piece of dense foam rubber
in the loading lever slot. It was still pretty loud with the moderator
and foam piece, but conciderably quieter than without. I gave up on
it and just grab the Condor if I want quiet. |

With this installed, the gun makes a little click when shot.

Maybe the shape of the pellets helps too.
Some guns are louder then others. But to me it seems completely random, especially after Al's story... |

That is true enough- larger overall and easier to grab ahold of- and if the front sight has been removed to install it- no worries about breaking (that's sort of a pun I guess) anything! |

If silencers are illegal, how does the gamo whisper get away with it? |

It's "permanently" affixed. |

Sorry for the half a$$'d necro but doesent that mean someone could just weld a silencer on the end of their AG and have it be legal? |
The problem is Snowbunny that if you can weld it on a gun, then you can saw it off and weld it on another and the authorities would not like that.
The Gamo gets away with it because the suppressor is an integral part of the gun.
Why not pay $200.00 for a licence and fit what you like legally.

If you were serious about buying a silencer... you might want to look at these guys:
http://www.gem-tech.com/
I would bet that one of their rimfire supressors would work very well on a high power airgun. They probably custom make them too- for a bit extra. |

Click the "ownership legalities" button on the gem-tech site. It gives a pretty clear explanation of what's involved in the U.S. |
