This is a simple, cheap solution for labeling things.
Anything that be printed on paper can become a label, graphic or textual. Besides the printout you'll need clear tape or contact paper, scissors, wax paper, and double-faced tape. Some double-faced tape comes with its own paper backing:
In really humid weather, paper fibers will pull apart after a few months. The labels are easy and cheap enough to replace, but there is a more durable alternative: iron-on "T" shirt transfers. Get the kind for dark shirts - it's white instead of clear:
Put clear tape or contact paper over the image to prevent rain and sweat from running the ink:
Put double-faced tape over the entire back surface:
Put waxed paper over the double-faced tape to prevent it from sticking to things while you work:
Burnish the entire "sandwich" with the back of your fingernail:
Cut it out:
Peel off the waxed paper:
Stick it in place, burnishing again with the back of your fingernail:
Here are some Radio Shack electronics knobs with the stickers I made:
Here I added ballistics data to the inside of a scope cap:
Maybe not professional silk screening, but not bad for the price. |

The truth is, I made it with myself in mind. When I see the name "dummyracer36," my brain automatically thinks "Oh, he's the motorcycle guy from Florida." I deeply apologize.
But since you brought it up, here's a start for your labeling projects:
