I found a new stain for our rifle stocks! It's under the fashion stains and they come in different colors. There are 2 different shades of green, one blue and an onyx black. They are also a gel so they are easy to apply. Since they are acrylic I am going to cover them with poly just to make sure they are waterproof, but I am sanding out a stock right now to try the green on. One is an emerald green and one is a hunter green.
I found them at my local menards. I don't know if you can order it at www.menards.com but it's worth a shot. I am trying the emerald first to see what it looks like. It looks like a good green for in the woods. The hunter looked awful dark to me. Somebody else may like it. Expect pics when I am done!
p.s. they also have a bright red |

I'm going to see how this one wears ad if it does good I am going to do my titan in either onyx or blue. Haven't decided yet. I just get tired of the same old wood color on sporting guns and the bright beautiful finishes on the competition arms. |

Still sanding on the old stock. I don't know what I finished it with, but it is tougher than glass! I just wish I had used more coats of it so I wouldn't have to refinish it. It just eats the grit off the paper, and I didn't get cheap paper! |

These sound like aniline dyes. Deeper penetration and rich colours than stains but light exposure will cause some fading if this is what they are.

It's not that bright of a color though. Not like the rich colors of a laminated stock. It's a lot more subdued than that. Besides, I am going to use helmsman over it so the UV protectant ought to keep it from being a problem. Are anilyne dyes compatible with a water-based stain? |
