I recently spoke with a rebuilder. He indicated my gun would be done in 10 weeks.
He said that he would install a R9 spring in my R1 and I would shoot 1000 fps after that.
The rebuild would run me $100.
My questions are these, any one ever heard of this R9 spring in an R1 mod?
And should I just do the rebuild myself?

The R9 is only rated at 935fps in .177 caliber, the R1 at 100fps in .177- so how would putting an R9 spring in an R1 make for more power?

The next question becomes- why attempt to make more power? The Weihrauchs (all Beeman 'R' series are re-branded Weihrauchs) are generally tuned for the best overall shootability vs. power- so trying to crank more power out of it may very well result lesser 'shootability'- i.e. rougher, so you end up with a rifle you don't particularly like shooting anymore.

Sounds like you should do the tune yourself (10 weeks? that also seems awfully long for a spring/seal job).

If I do the rebuild myself, where should I buy my parts?

You can try PyramydAir- they are the only ones selling the "Beeman" branded Weihrauch's these days. Or maybe call Beeman themselves- they may still have stock on the parts from a few years back...

Did you ask them about purchasing the parts, or just make assumptions?

What would be "pretty tacky"- going to the largest seller of airguns in the US who is the agent for the 'Beeman' Weihrauch products and should be carrying parts for these products and asking if they have the parts you require?

In case you hadn't gathered- a "10 week turnaround" coupled with bad advice may very well be intentional in order to discourage people from sending things in for repairs- there is very little money to be made from a corporate perspective in repairing airguns.

Do you really believe a company selling at least a million dollars a year in airguns is terribly concerned with a $150.00 repair? They probably have to pay the guy doing the repairs more than they can make off the activity in a year- it is a "customer service" endeavor so the manufacturers they deal with can't claim they don't support what they sell properly. If you think PA will be "offended" by not sending them something for repair, I suspect you could not be more wrong.

Hey sweet heart. I asked a very simple question. I did not ask for all your drama. Either you can answer the question or you cant. And if not, keep your opinions and judgements to yourself.
I find particular "tack" in your assumption that PA would purposely give out bad advise and exaggerated return times to discourage the extra business.
This may be something YOU would do. I doubt it is anything they would do. As a matter of fact, their smith was extreemly nice and helpful, hence the guilt for not giving them the rifle for 10 weeks.
Judging from your tact in this thread, these concepts would elude your thought process on basic human interaction.

That went downhill faster than a sumo wrestler on a luge. Thread locked.
