Even .22 LR. When you do find some the price is higher then last years. I also notice that "adult" airguns are becoming more popular, where as just a few years ago they were sneered at as being "kid's toys". Now I'm wondering will .117 and .22 caliber airguns will replace the .22 LR as a gun everyone has two or three of(or more)? After all it is much easier to find a place shoot an airgun then a .22 LR rifle or pistol. Pellets/BBs are much cheaper as well. It will be back, I think, eventually. Mostly scalpers. For those that shoot and hunt. The downside is that .177 pellets are cheaper. In some areas anything over .180 are considered firearms(such as IL). And last, some stores may only carry .177 pellets. If the naysayers get their way and firearms are regulated up the wazoo and priced beyond the reach of ordinary people, then yes - airguns would be the logical alternative. From a technical viewpoint airguns are different tools than .22LR firearms. Sure, their ranges overlap. There are some airguns that exceed the kinetic energy of the .22LR round, and with Colibri's a .22 reaches down into the airgun range. With commonly available equipment I think they are two different animals. Shooting indoors? Shooting at 100+ yards? Noise? Cost of ammunition? Personal defense? Hunting larger animals? Airguns are the only way I can shoot. I have a lot nicer collection though simply because I can afford more. I can also afford to shoot a lot more, plus I don't have to have a CCW. I don't have to worry as much about one of my kids getting a hold of my airguns. I mean the worst thing that can happen is a trip to the ER and not the morgue. Plus I can share my hobby a lot more with my boys especially my 11 year old. I am kinda glad of all the softair coming out though. It makes our look less dangerous, even though I don't think airsofts have a purpose. If you want to shoot at each other a paintball gun is a lot more fun, and you don't get into those " I got you! No you didn't! arguements. My 11 year old got a paintball gun for xmas and I can't wait to take him out to play. My daughter in law carries a taurus mellenium chambered for 45 ACP, and personally it would make me nervous. Her ex is an a$$hole though and I have a feeling she will end up shooting him someday. Now my roommate tells that once I recive Social Security, that I can not have firearms due to having a mental illness.
