Hello fellow AGH members! I wanted to show off my new Benjamin Trail NP in a different light by giving you a bit of humor, but the seriousness of how accurate this baby is and I did this all with the 3-9x40AO scope. So I hope this finds you well both the humor and the effect.

Let me begin...

In my recent post under ‘General Air Gun Questions and Topics’, I showed off my new ‘Toy’: my first Benjamin Trail NP in .177. Today I sighted her in at 35yds on a 5/16” black dot I made on a piece of white printer paper using a circle template ruler. Once I zeroed in, I held near dead on that circle (3 in same hole just off of center left; two overlapping holes off center lover right). Needless to say, I didn’t have much of a black circle left.

Once done I put things away and went to change out my laundry when I noticed my 2yr old nephew’s little monkey sitting in the muck behind the washer near the drain; waterlogged and filthy. An idea went off in my head: I could wash this and give it back to him, but would my sister want him having the little guy after sitting for God knows how long in the filth? Well, let me tell you AGH members, no good uncle would allow such things and it was about the size of a baby tree jumper.

Sooo…I returned to my yard and placed said money up against a Husky construction bag that was filled with busted drywall and 1x2’s which if anyone ever asks, “No I am not too lazy to drag it to the curb for the trash collectors; it’s my backstop for some heavy-hitting air rifles!”

Enough said.

So, Mr. Monkey got propped up on a box just in front of the bag and I returned to my shooting position which is marked off at 35yds on my patio to lawn, sat behind my shooting table and on elbow and artillery rest I laid bead on one of the smallest target: his nose. From the level I was sitting and how he was propped up I couldn’t quite see it, so using the black edge of the nose which I could see, I focused in on the center of the bowing of its little smile. Not having my replacement GRT-III trigger as of yet (sometime next week it should get here), I slowly squeezed the 'stock' trigger of 3.5lbs back until it fired.

Now here is where it gets a bit interesting.

Through the scope I saw Mr. Monkey shoot backwards, I saw the head sink in as if it deflated, but it didn’t topple. I was like Shocked!

That was it?! It didn’t fall?!

I mean this was a waterlogged stuffed money with a body mass probably three times what it normally weighs so that pellet had to do more than that! So, I set the rifle down and walked to the target and sure enough, I did hit it just to the left dead center of his smile (his right).

Shrugging I went back and decided on something harder: his eye. Aiming carefully I squeezed off the shot, set the rifle down and then went to take a looksee because this time there was no movement, but I heard the heavy impact.

A miss?

So I trotted on down and sure enough, I got it just a millimeter off of center of the eye to the left (his right again). I decided on one more eye shot, leveled, aimed, squeezed and off the pellet went. I saw the impact which was just to the left of center, and yeah, I could have adjusted then, but I knew I wasn’t compensating for any wind. I went down to the target area and sure enough I did hit it again almost right on top of the same hole, but just a little more to the left and simply widening the same hole (more to come on this with the pictures below).

Anywho, I felt confident the headshot business was working so I took aim this time at dead center of its belly where the seams came together for all I know they were trying to make it look like a navel. It did and in the lighting in my yard at the time (4:14PM CST/overcast and threatening more rain with a breeze from the west [I was shooting due east]) made that little ‘navel’ stick out like a sore thumb. So, without further ado, I laid aim and fired.

From where I sat I could see where the pellet had hit; just below the ‘navel’ by a couple of millimeters and to the left by one. The belly had dimpled in some as well, but it wasn’t until I removed the monkey did I know why (again, pictures).

I fired again, saw the impact: same hole.

Fired a third, but this time I didn’t see the impact just heard it, but now, the rain came again, so I quickly threw the caps over the lenses, stuck the Benji just inside the door and I went to retrieve Mr. Monkey.

This is the aftermath with some commentary…

Below you will see the three head impact strikes...

Near miss of smile...

Near misses of eye...

Gut shots...

Now, before you look at the next ones, I didn't understand why the monkey simply shot backwards and stopped until I tried to pick it up. In this case as you can see, there was no picking up, better to state 'pulling out' because the pellets not only blasted through the money at 35yds, but it pulled its fluff with it into the dry wall through the Husky bag! Shocked

A more artistic one...

Now, as you can see, three of the pellets actually stayed in the monkey, my only guess to headshot #1 because it passed through a denser area from nose, to rear and into plaster. The second headshot stopped inside a knot of stuffing the first shot made via ballistic tunneling and the third shot blew through all the damage and kept on going. For the belly shots I think the first shot went straight through and the second found a knot as well caused by the 'jet effect'. The last one, the thin little stream didn't have much resistance, but it its trajectory did change (probably hitting a stuffed monkey bone or something of that nature *shrugs*).

Here are the retrieved pellets...

Anyway, let us all shed one last tear and a moment of silence for 'lil Monkey'. You will be missed...

Brought to you by AirGunBug, the Benjamin Trail NP, Crosman and of course, 'lil Monkey'.

Thank you for reading/viewing. I hope it gave you at least a smile and showed you how well the BTNP works just after a quick sighting in.

HA! Yeah, or buy little monkeys from the dollar stores Very Happy.

When my sister and bro-in-law comes by sometime this weekend, I'll show them what happens when they leave toys here.
