hello folks. I joined weeks back but since I was moving into my new house, I haven't had much time to be online. i recently purchased a new .177 discovery and so far, it's ok. the initial quality control could be a bit better, but overall, its a keeper. My biggest beef is I am a bit disabled in my back and the pumping thing is a sum^&#&^&
I have a couple C02 cylinders I use for garage air tool use and so forth. I bought the dual fuel adapter for the disco and found that when you use C02, that you only get about 900 PSI to the gun. This is of course unacceptable in Alaska. I need the full power, not to mention I need all the velocity I can get for the rabbits and birds here. I wanted the .22 gun, but they were out of stock and the price was just too good to wait around.
anyway, my question (FINALLY) is can I find a cheaper high pressure air cylinder than the Benjamin one for $150 bucks?? C02 cylinders typically run less than $30 already filled. How about welding stores?? I sure would appreciate some info here. I am just not able to pump this gun all the time. by the time my son grows into this rifle, I will likely own something nicer for myself, say a gas piston gun. those seem nice.
Anyway, ya'll have a neat and useful forum site going here. Glad to be a part of it.

You only need an air tank- could be a SCUBA/SCBA unit or a welding tank (with AIR, not Oxygen- pure O2 would be alot more expensive- although Nitrogen could also be used, but again more expensive than plain air). All you then need is the appropriate clamp/harness and a hose to connect to the Discovery to fill it. A typical used SCUBA tank and fill yoke run in most places around $150-200 plus the price of a hose with the correct quick-disconnect for the Disco port (likely can be found for around $20.00).
Good luck- I have no idea what you can buy/can't buy easily in Alaska. |

Are there no fixes for this less than $150 -$200??? Dang, it's barely worth having a PCP rifle.. |

i paid $175 for my used 80cf 3000 psi steel tank. they are necassary if you want to shoot alot.
plus, the disco is an "entry" level rifle.(still good guns)
get a good tank and your pcp posibilities are endless.(there are sooo many).
i plan on buying a 4500 psi carbon fiber tank next year.
i've never used a pump. i went directly to the scuba tank. no regrets either. |

Then you need to get a tank. Small tanks like the small-ish 72ci unit you mention from Benjamin aren't all that easy to get filled either- most dive/welding shops won't touch them. People usually end up filling them from a SCUBA tank or such for field use.
Nothing wrong with PCP guns, but you have to commit some resources to it. Perhaps you should think about a springer instead. |

| What would ya'll recommend in the way of a good quality spring rifle that doesn't weigh 9 lbs??Something a 10-12 year old boy can manage? I wanted 22 caliber but they were out of stock on those in the Discovery's. I want lots of animal whopping power if it can be done... |

RWS/Diana Model 34.
Don't know if a 10-12 year old can handle it- it would depend on the specific 10-12 year old. |

Ok fellas, so now that I have this Discovery, I don't really want to sell it. But today, I had it on the shooting range and it was chilly, about 35 degrees. Little breezy and I felt cold. The rifle was pumped up to the 2K but it seemed to throw the pellets awfully slow. Any ideas why it would do this other than the cold? I thought that this rifle with compressed air wouldn't be as affected by cold like a C02 gun would be...what gives??
Any takers for this rifle? |

Your Discovery should not have been affected by cold, air pressure is pretty constant despite temperature.
Are you at an extreme elevation above sea level or something?
As for "takers"- post an ad in the For Sale section if you want to sell it. |

Have you had it apart?.... did you remove the safety or alter the sear spring?.... If so, that could be the problem....
