I am shooting the gamo varmint hunter hp .177.
Shooting the gamo rocket and crosman premier ultra magnum heavy 10.5 g.
When target shooting most of the time the pattern is very good, but on occasion the pellets do not group with the other shots.
Is this common ? I check each pellet close to make sure their not damaged. |

IDK if you're using a rest or not, but springers are really hold-picky so your flyers may be a result of the difference in hold pattern between shots. Try to hold the gun in the exact same position each time & see if that helps. By any stretch once the gun spits its ammo accurately at least every 9 out of 10 shots you should be fine. |

As mod90 said, hold is everything with springers. The Artillery Hold is usually mandatory, but even then where you place your off hand and how much pressure you use to grip and to hold the butt of the stock against your shoulder vary from gun to gun. You have to experiment to find what your gun likes best and then practice persistence.
You did not mention how many shots you have put through your barrel, but many guns take several hundred shots to "shoot in" and become consistent. Also, personally, I would not expect Gamo Rockets to shoot consistently. Crosman Premiers marginally more so. Different guns, even identical ones, shoot different pellets most uniformly -- so experiment with a variety of those as well.
Good luck and good shootin' |

I modified rest and made 3 shot at 20yd and 3 shots at 30 yd.
1/2" group (BULL's - eye) 20 yd.
1 1/4" group at 30 yd. using gamo rockets.
concentrating on holding rifle same way. Almost dark!
Do I need to try different pellets? |

Gamo pellets are some of the lowest quality units on the market- try something else- i.e. Crosman, H&N, JSB, just about anything other than Gamo pellets. |

I have found that most springers don't shoot well from a rest. That is why the artillery hold is preferred, don't squeeze the gun too hard and let the fore stock sit in your open palm. Look up "artillery hold". |
