Hi, I've got a Gamo 1200 and a Ruger (both .177), both of which have a similar problem. After 2-3000 rounds they won't cock any more. The Ruger just started the other day - about every other try it works fine, but the rest of the time it springs back w/o cocking. Once the Gamo started it never worked again.
Is there some sort of catch in there thats worn out or broken thats accessible to someone who's a not a gunsmith, but handy?
thanks |

When my Diana wouldn't cock any more it was caused by a broken main spring You need a spring compressor to safely disassemble then reassemble a springer. There are plenty of tutorials out there for how to work on springers. |

I am not familiar with those rifles but on mine if the trigger goes out of adjustment it will not cock. I have a little adjustment screw on the trigger that I need to turn out to get it working again. Is there a scraping noise when your trying if so then you will need to look at the spring and some sort of spring compressor will be required to do so safely. |

Thanks for the responses.
I'm thinking its probably not a broken spring, 'cuz it feels normal right to the point where its all the way over and something should go 'click'. Except it doesn't.
The trigger adjustment is an interesting idea - you just turn it until something good happens? |

It should probably take only one or two turns to notice a difference, on mine I turn it counter clockwise. If thats what it is then you can continue to adjust your trigger for pull. |

If its not the trigger, remove the three screws holding the stock on and take a peek in the cocking slot. Check the spring for uneven spacing or other obvious signs of what could be causing your problem. |

on the gamo look n see if it has a wire rod that is supposed to be an anti bear trap . its about 6 inces long and somehow if it breaks the gamo wont cock. or at least my gamo big cat wouldnt cock when it broke ,as for the other gun ,im not familur with it. but keep in mind not all gamos have this but you have to remove the stock |

I removed the stock and everything looks pretty good - when I try to cock it everything is fine right to the point where that little 'click' is supposed to be ... Could it be "worn out" after 3k shots?
anti bear trap? I did notice a bit of wire behind the trigger (may have been part of a keeper). I moved it a little bit and the gun did feel a little different when I tried to cock it, but not enough to fix anything. Robert - do you have any other info on that? Is it a replaceable part?
to tell the truth I thought I was going to find lots of people who had this same problem - 2 out of my first 2 guns have it, or at least the same symptom. I just bought a chinese .22 bam28 which feels and looks really solid, (and shoots great) but I'd love to fix the gamo and the ruger (blackhawk) as the 2 of them together weigh about the same as the bam28 (and are just as accurate).
thanks for your feedback |

I had that problem on a Crosman Raven. It appeared after less than a thousand shots. On that particular gun it was a weak (fatigued) trigger spring. I'm not familiar with your particular guns, but if you can put your finger behind the trigger and push it forward while cocking and find that it does "stay cocked", that could be your problem. |
