Its not quite done, a few parts to reblue and not the scope I want but I couldn't wait to show it off. It took a lot more work than I expected and a few compromises but I like it, heavier than original which makes for a less sensitive hold and a nicer feeling pistol grip.

I've cut the barrel to 11.5" and made a muzzle break from hex shaft as well as an optional shroud.
I used a 10/22 combination rail adapter

Yeah I have been wanting to get one of those QB's , the price is right.
Great job on the stock, It's funny I only discovered how useful a rasp tool is to wood carving this year. |

I couldn't afford a Dremel so I bought that rasp and used a variety of files and cloth backed sand paper, my hands would get quite sore because once I got started it was hard to put the tools down. |

I think the rasp works better than a dremel and I have a dremel. The dremel is good for tight small spots but the rasp I find really helps shape the wood but yeah its a work out. |

Thanks, the best part is what a difference it has made to the shooting quality. The new stock is a little heavier than the old and I bedded the receiver in body filler so there is very little recoil felt and with the short barrel hold sensitvity is almost gone, so now I'm making shots in the 25-35yd range consistently that were a real challenge before. |

What did you use for a mould release (to keep the metal parts from being glued to the stock)?

I like to rip off a 3/4" strip of that cloth-backed stuff and pull it through under my thumb - kind of like a micro belt sander. The paper-backed stuff just disintegrates when I use it in that way. |

I used saran wrap and or masking tape, in some cases I wrapped the receiver and in others I draped it over the area and pressed it in. I used long set screws in the bolt holes to mark the exact locations and then was able to drill them out after. I was careful where I put the body filler so I wouldnt pull it out with any projections from the trigger or anything I also did a couple of applications so I wouldn't have to worry about too large an area or mixing too much material as you know time is limited. I did screwup one area but I dug it out right away and it was no problem. I found the body filler easy to carve with a sharp chisel in the instances where I wanted to remove some material. |
