Impressive! I'm going to try it.

The did work rather well!

I may try that for a very large target for sighting-in and such...

I tried it, and it works. I can see how it could be a lot cheaper than commercial "Shoot-N-See" targets, plus giving the potential for more variety in target shapes/sizes. You could even paint up the neighbor's pet or the mother-in-law if you wanted.

Some observations:

1. The paint needs to be thoroughly dry so it can crack and chip off the tape. It works - I got a wonderful indication when I shot through it.

2. I used a clear, glossy packing tape and engine enamel paint. It just didn't want to cover the tape - I got horrible "fish eyes." Horvath brother obviously got good coverage, so next time maybe a different kind of paint, or perhaps a more matte finish tape. Or perhaps cleaning the surface with thinner before painting. I also want to try gloss polyurethane varnish as an intermediate layer.

3. I want to experiment with adding lines for precise aiming. Maybe by masking areas under the black paint. Perhaps white automotive pinstriping tape (I could also make my own with paper and double-faced tape). Another option would be to use white paint on top and just draw the details with a marker.

Anyway, it's a great idea, harvath.

So what type of tape and paint did you use, HB?

I tried it again with other types of spray paint, but no luck. The "fitaX" tape you used looks exactly like mine, and the "ChemiColor" website doesn't show anything unique about the paint. Three more questions for you:

1. Was it flat, satin, or gloss paint?

2. Was it a special paint for plastic (like the "Fusion" brand here in the U.S.)?

3. What was the temperature when you painted? It comes to me that if it was hotter when you did it, maybe some of the solvents are evaporating before it even hits the tape - making the droplets stickier.

Still a great idea, the only thing is to make it work in Minnesota.

Good idea. Reminds me of this fluorescent color Reebok shoes I wear that kept getting so much attention from passerbys that I decided to spray paint it black. The only paint I had at the time was the High Temp spray paint I use for the BBQ grill. Everytime I bump my shoes into something the paint will come off exposing the bright color underneath. I guess I have my paint for this target project.

Ok..

The tape is an adhesive tape cheaper than I had here. No big deal, a transparent tape.

It may seem funny, but I used the cheapest fast drying spray paint I found. I don´t have it here right now, will check the exact type and post later.

Tks

Someone in Canada told me that Crylon Fusion is the best paint.

Need to check it.

The Krylon Fusion line is formulated to adhere to plastic. This is a unique application - you want the paint to stick, but then release when whacked with a pellet.
