Shoot N-C, 3" bullseyes. I hate walking to the target to see how I'm doing, and don't own a spotting scope. One reason I like a .22; it makes bigger holes to see.

I'm a big fan of paper and in the last year I've actually totally switched over to buying ISSF/NRA targets. Shocked

It took me that long to figure out that I was fooling myself into thinking printing my own was cheaper.

For me looking at the group patterns and figuring out whats going on is half the fun. but ya I'm a bit odd Laughing

Nah. You're just analytical like me. It's fun collecting data and then thinking about what you got there.

I know what you mean. I once shot a group that looked like Mother Teresa. I'm still trying to sell it on ebay.

Kidding aside, if I need a numerical analysis I scan the group and import it into MS Publisher. There I generate a caliber sized circle, which I drag-and-drop over each hole. (I find it easier than using calipers, especially if the hole is ragged.) The program gives me the X/Y coordinates for the circle's location +/- .001." Those numbers go into a spreadsheet that regurgitates group center, group diameter, mean radius, and figure of merit.

That' pretty cool. (To us geeks.) Does Publisher come with Office? I've never tried to find it.

It depends on the bundling of the MS Office products (home, student, professional, etc.) - sometimes Publisher is included and sometimes not.

I was just looking around and found an equivalent program for free (there are no legal free downloads of MS Publisher). OpenOffice Draw will let you specify a numerical value for an object's dimensions (i.e., a caliber sized circle) and will read out the position - both to the nearest 0.01"

Here's the manual:
http://www.openoffice.org/documentation/manuals/oooauthors/DrawGuide.pdf

And the download site:

Picked up a swinging plate target at Wally World. Fun and when you hit it you know. No garbage to pick up later. Only draw back is my Crosman M4-177 doesn't have the power to swing them all the way up (reset).

Here's another one - the daughter uses it:
