Close up pics of .22 cal pellets
Had some time left this afternoon so I turned off the autofocus of my Nikon D70, placed a reversing ring on the body and a very old f2.0 50mm Nikkor. Focused apperture wide open, after that closed it to the smallest apperture (image turns all black), shutter speed 2 seconds which gave me the time to use a handheld flash manualy. The results are not perfect since the depth of field is extremely limited and it's a fussy job to do without propper studio equpment. Since the lens has been mounted reversed there's no deformation.
Here are some pics, all have been photoshopped a bit and have been cropped, sometimes rescaled. The last one is an original file.
All pellets .22 cal.
tin .177 cal
JSB Jumbo Match
Norica Thor
Norica Match
Norica Shark
Norika apache
Umarex
SMK Spitfire (brrrrrrrr)
Gamo Pro Match
JSB Jumbo Match
H&N Baracuda
H&N Baracuda
Big Boy etc

The Big Boy looks interesting Brutuz who makes them? It would be possible to increase the weight by melting solder into it for experimental purposes.
Plus not having a Diablo shape they could be magazine fed?

I think that's the H&N Rabbit Magnum II, I got a few from my Talon SS friend, not suitable for any Crosman because they're to heavy. (24.7 grain)
The left one in the group of three is a Skenco Predator Big Boy Heavy, the middle one must be the H&N Rabbit Magnum II (but I'm not sure) and the right one is a UK produced one that came in a plastic snap "tin" I gave him but forgot the brand and type.
Edit for the UK pellet:

It’s the H&N Rabbit Magnum II I’m interested in, but looking it up on the net it appears to be a very rear pellet in the UK and even rarer in .177, their quoting 15grain and a rifle with min energy 20 joules/15ft lbs, which in the UK is a FAC rifle.
So it looks like that intresting idea has gone out of the window now.
Cheers Al |

My 2400 does 586 fps / 10.59 fpe / 14.35 joules using the Gamo Pro Match
Using those cylindrical pellets the fps dropped to 502, the Skenko Big Boys only 466 fps |

I’m really looking for .177 pellets Brutuz has I don’t have a .22 at the moment, so I think I will have a go at making a mould and make my own pellets.
Making something similar to the H&N Rabbit Magnum II, with being straight sided it shouldn’t be to difficult, I hope.
