I called the Crossman "Custom Shop" to place an order for a long steel breech for my 2240 and was told that they are "out of stock" with no delivery estimate...I really need to replace the plastic breech in the worst way...Does anyone know of a source for the long steel breech that has them "in stock" at a reasonable price? Thanks for the help...

You may be up against a wall
The US dealers don't really carry them because crosman wheels them out to individuals at the same cost.
You could try one of the canadian dealers like DLairgun but you may not have a lot of luck getting them to ship to the US http://www.dlairgun.com/Accessories/Crosman/ |

This may or may not help you, but I recently had the same problem and decided to go with a Crooked Barn Aluminum Multi-Breech and Ultimate Bolt from Jim Giles at:
http://www.crookedbarn.com/multi_breech.htm
It is much lighter and works great.
After I ordered the Multi-Breech, etc., the Long Steel breech became available. I got one of those, too. LOL
Now I have a mess of leftover parts to play with and see if I can concoct something unique, or at least fun...LOL
