Having just bought a Benjamin Titan NP, I searched the internet and came across you guys. Very Happy

Accuracy was so, so at twenty yards. 1" to 1 1/2". I shoot that at 100 yards with my '06! I just attributed it to learning the ropes of airgunning...hold, different pellets, etc. Things did smooth out somewhat but I couldn't with all conviction say this thing was a tack driver like a lot of folks talk about on here. Shooter error? Possibly. Just didn't seem to have any consistancy. Scope issue? Idk. Everyone says get a new scope. Rather than buy one I mounted a Leopold 3x9 off my '06 just for shits and giggles to see if that would help. Yes I know, regular riflescopes are not made for airrifles but since this is a piston instead of a spring gun i thought I'd be ok. Did it help? Not really. Then I ran across the articles on muzzle crowning. Hmm...so i took the barrel weight off, what a b!tch, to have a look at the muzzle. Looked like it was cut off with a hacksaw with a dull blade. It was crowned but not really clean. So I used the old drill, brass screw and toothpaste trick. Looked like it was cleaned up pretty nice, so I thought, here we go, now we're getting somewhere! Well.... now it seems to be stringing one certain brand of pellet while actually shooting 2 different groups with another. The first 2 shots are a one holer, but high right by 1 1/2". Next 2, 3/8" apart at the bull, then the last shot is up with the first two. Rolling Eyes

More than 1 group has been fired and while all have not been the same, size wise, the pattern seems to hold. Freakin' weird:shrug:.I've rambled way too long but I wanted to give you a clear overall view of what I've done to this gun. Questions...is it possible that I've screwed up the crowning job and would have been better off leaving it alone? Oh yeh, I only ran the drill in one direction only, forward. Should I have alternated between forward and reverse throughout the prossess to elliminate burs? No one mentioned that in reviews I read. Also, is it slightly possible I've ruined a good Leopold scope out of ignorance? Shocked

Any help in this area, from anyone, would be a huge help!

Don't worry about the scope just yet. Stick to shooting technique (search for "artillery hold" on Google) and try a few different pellets- every rifle prefers a different one it seems.

You have a bit of a quandary.

Throwing two distinct groups is indeed the #1 indicator there is a crown issue.

But.....
because your talking about a springer (NP's are springers too)

It's also a a good sign there is a hold problem

The joke may be on me. The gun is a Titan GP, not NP. I went with the NP for "Nitro Piston". Dumby me! I have about 700 rounds through this thing and it seems to prefer, so far, Crosman Premier pellets. I switched out the Leopold for the 4x Center Point that came with it and guess what? Shrunken groups. 1/2" to 3/4" with occasional 1 holers for 2 pellets within various groups of 5 shots. I'll be..... The Leopold may have been in trouble because of having to crank it way up for elevation to come in, compromising the inner workings, though it shot pretty well for approx. 200 rounds. That lead me to believe that it was shot. Yes/No?[/quote]

I switched out scopes and guess what? Shrunken groups! Approx. 700 rounds thru and it seems to like Crosman Premier. The Leopold may have had elevation issues as I had it practically screwed tight to get it to come in which is not the right way to run scopes. So we'll see.
