Hello all,

I've recently discovered high power air rifles, I used to shoot those old red rider style bb guns back when I was a kid. Though Big 5 had a sale on a Beeman 1074 springer so I picked it up....and man all I have to say is that thing is accurate and Powerful, i've been getting solid hits on steel at 100-175 yards.

If anybody has any tips/suggestions, feel free to let me know, i've been shooting (powder burning) rifles for years and hunting for a number of years, just never with air guns, so tips and tricks are greatly appreciated.

Wow that is pretty long range. How much holdover do you have to get and how big is your groups? What power scope are you using? Seems like a pretty high distance to me. I don't think that I've ever seen a shot that long with an air rifle and I'have been into them for the last 10 years. I can't find a listing for that rifle. Is there another name for it? We need pics! I would love to see a photo of your group at 175 yards.

Welcome. If you're hitting that well with a springer at that distance, I don't think I'll try to advise you on hold or anything Laughing

It's not much of a group, I use the original scope that came with it, something like a 4 x 32 or something in that range, nothing special...it doesnt even have mildots so I can't tell you much in the way of hold, but apparently it also goes by the "Kodiak X2" http://www.amazon.com/Beeman-Kodiak-Scope-Model-1074/dp/B003NDCEP0 .

I can't show you what my grouping is at that range, i'm backed up to a field and I over look it, I can shoot out to 200 yards I just can't go in the field because the owner of it has a grudge against me for a totally random reason, even though I do pest control for him Faq-U

, though, I am getting a nice 3/4 of an inch grouping at 10 yards.

Those 1074s are good. I had one of those things. Accurate hard hitter.
Just hold it loosely and let 'er rock through the shot and you'll be nailing pennies shortly.

I watch Ted's Holdover when I get a change, and that dude nails pigeons from 150+ yards away. Not that it's easy, but it's doable. Then again, he has an Edgar Madador, but I'm just saying.

With my Crosman Nitro Venom in .177, I'm able to sight in at 25 yards, and hold over for everything else with 8.44 grain pellets. At 50-60 yards, I'm dropped about an inch. I would imagine that at 100 yards, I'll be dropping 5-6 inches or more. So at 150 yards, I'll imagine my drop to be over 24-48 inches. I suppose it's doable with springers for those ranges, but the groups would be pretty wild.

I limit my kill zone to be within 50 yards for the time being. Anything further out than that, I don't have the confidence to place the shot in the zone.
