I have a few questions about using the Benjamin Maurauder (or other PCP pistols (or rifles for that matter)?

I have seen a video showing someone testing on of these from full charge down to empty. The first number of shots were lower velocity (presumably because the hammer strike wasn't strong enough to open the valve for a full burst), at maximum psi, than latter ones. Then the velocity tailed off toward the end (presumably because the psi was lowering). This would tend to show that a particular gun and pellet had a sweet spot in the range of psi settings.

So, that being the case:

1) Is it possible to tune a pistol or rifle to have the first shot at the sweet spot (i.e. at the psi point where the hammer opens the valve for a full burst)?

2) What would be a good tank capacity that would allow say 10 fills, that would allow (say) 20 shots, in the sweet spot area?

3) What is the most popular size tank that one might carry for a days outing? I know, it just depends on how many pellets you intend to fire. Rolling Eyes

So let's make it easy. Say I wanted to fire about 200 pellets in an outing. What would be a reasonable size tank for that?

4) Where is the best place to get a tank filled to 3000-4500 psi? I know the obvious answer is a scuba shop but some shops won't fill a tank, unless one is a certified diver? Can paintball shops fill high pressure tanks for air gun (not paintball) use?

5) I live in WA State. Anyone know of a place that will fill air gun tanks in WA? Might save me a lot of phone calls. Smile

6) A good backup would be a pump. I have seen a few different pumps for PCP. Which pumps are best, to be able to fill to 3000 psi?

7) About how many pumps might one expect to have to complete, to get to 3000 psi? I have seen a number that's over 100.

8) Is using a hand pump for an air rifle more exerting than say using a bicycle pump to pump up a car tire. Those are relatively low pressure. But it's the level of effort I'm asking about. Laughing

I'm sure Bob will jump in with specific details about springs and pressures but here is the short version to get you started

1) Yes in the case of the Mrod you would turn up the velocity adjuster until your first shot is at the peak of the curve... In other guns this is done by same or adding a velocity adjuster or adding spring pressure by increasing the spring rate.

2)I cart a 62cu/in(buddy bottle) that gives me roughly 1400 shots at 500fps

3) Same as above

4) I get mine filled at the paintball shop to 3000psi

5)NA

6) The Hill pump is well respected

7) Over a hundred would be correct

8) The pumps are multistage so the effort you feel is about the same as a bike pump.
