Dont kick me off! I promise to buy a 2240 and start tinkering through the winter Light Sabre Fight

And I just noticed that you have some deadly emoticons going on here.

All but the most recent people who have signed up (like a few in the last dozen) have provided a valid email address and "confirmed" their registration via email.

If you go to the main forum page and look- it lists 500 members, but if you put your pointer over the most recent username, it lists them as "u=695" which means they were the 695th user to register. What this means is that 195 ids have been deleted. For the first while, most of these deleted ids were spammers- but as of the last few weeks, virtually every userid deleted 7 days after registering without "confirming" it via email is deleted. All the user ids except those under 7 days old are "valid" where a live person filled out the registration form and "confirmed" it through the email link they are sent.

As these are valid registrations, but obviously not a lot of active posters- there's no real reason to be eliminating or deleting them. Some people sign up, and then don't post for weeks or months afterwards until they have a specific question. Some people register and just "lurk" watching things, sometimes for years, without posting anything. Neither of these things are harmful in any way- and deleting them doesn't serve much of a purpose, other than discouraging "lurkers" who could be potential contributors someday from coming back. If you look at any online forum- the number of "lurkers" often outweighs the active, contributing members by 5:1- many of which eventually get more involved as time goes on.

The idea here is not to "cut people out" for no definable reason, and the number of Registered Users is just that- a number. Our memberlist is solidly made up of real, live people because of the aforementioned "confirmation" requirement. Perhaps someday, when people have been registered for extremely long periods of time without ever making a post, we will eliminate some of the ids- but there is really no reason for it at the moment or in the near future- it's only a number on a page.

i just think its kinda misleading....

when people join they may think whoa im gonna get loads of responces!!!!!!
when they see the number of regestered users then only you or a few others respond, However it was just a suggestion.

Doesn't matter- on any forum the number of "active" users who are visiting regularly and posting is maybe 5 or 10% (10% is actually quite good) of the total members on the list. But- maybe all of the people on the memberlist have posted in the past, changed interests, been in the hospital, whatever- should they be deleted? They are not "invalid" they are just not currently posting.

"Numbers" are just that, and can be misleading. If you want to see some really funny stuff- go find some forums on specific technical/programming topics. There could be 100,000 members listed- and only a couple dozen that are "active" regularly. People register to ask one question and disappear again. Do I, as a new member, care if I get the answer I need from two people, or two thousand? No- probably not. In fact, 1995 of the 2000 answers would likely never get read.

The only people who posted were people who had already been posting- nobody was "drawn in" from outside. Don't go slapping yourself on the back so fast...

Not every body feels or wants to post. There are lots of lurkers that would rather look then add anything to anything. Nothing wrong with that.
