Howdy,
This was pretty exciting, just have to tell you all.

I constructed a target range for the boy and I, here at the house.
It is 18 ft wide , by 30 meters long. It has a shop on one side, and really THICK brush on the other side.
At the end of it, it is thick brush, with about a 10 foot section of hogwire fence, that is the backside of our goat pen.

Last week, I was working in my forge , in the shop. The schoolbus stopped and the kids got off.
About 10 minutes later, our dogs went nuts out back. So I hollered at the boy, "what are the dogs barking at?"
A few seconds later, he calmly came into the shop and says "Theres a moose in the goat pen"

At first I didnt believe him, but thought Id go see.
Sure enough ! a bull moose is in there !
So , I ran in and got the video cam, and ran down the target range.
As I peeked around the shop (over the hogwire) his BIG old head pops out around the same corner
I jumped back and so did he
So , I peeked around the corner again, and right then , he is jumping the fence, right in my face.
(by the way, my vid cam was on , but shutter was closed, so all I recorded was a "choice word", and running .
Man alive, The "flight "mode took over fast. I turned and ran .
So, now the moose and I are running down the target lane.
I started to look back as I was running, to see how far behind he was.
But he was "fast", and was actually side by side with me , running for the road.

I measured it , and he was 9 feet from me, when we were side by side.
I havent had an adrenaline rush like that in a long time.

I am so glad that he was as scared as me , because he could have ran right over the top of me , .
And BIG ? he was huge ! I mean HUGE ! with a nice paddle/rack on one side, and a "nub" of a horn on the other.

I figure he got trapped down that lane, and the kids getting home spooked him, so he jumped that hogwire.

Oh, the goats werent too impressed either. LOL

Thanks for lettin me tell this to you all.

Dusty

You know, DustyRoundup, it just doesn't do your story justice to put it in the "BS" section. I'm sure what you felt at the moment was no BS at all. Just don't tell Gamo or they will come out with a moose video to replace the wild boar nonsense.

Good read! lol...poor li'l thing, you must have scared him half to death!...lol...Seriously, though, man I'm glad he didn't think you were another moose or something. Those big ol' bad boys can be dangerous!

What an experience! too bad about the camera and the pics...at least you got some good sound effects!

Yep, it was funny.
Its been quite the year.
Earlier this summer, we had a bear in our trash, and he just stood there looking at my girlfriend, as she yelled through the screen door at him.
( I put hotwire around the trash bin , and a chunk of HOT hogwire on top of it, and the next morning there were claw marks in the ground, ,, a sign that ole mr bear got zapped . and he hasnt been back)

then a week ago, I fed the horses , in the dark, and walked out to shut the pasture gate , for the evening. Something caught my eye, at my feet, but "My" dogs were in the house, so I clicked on my flashlight, and Ill be darned, theres a FOX, about 3-4 feet away from me.. I couldnt figure what the heck was going on, so I walked away, and it ran towards me , so I faced it , it stopped, I walked towards it, it backed off, I turned to walk back , and it came at me .
This sequence lasted almost all the way to the house.

Crazy dang fox !

Then the kids were telling the neighbor, ( we all have chickens) and the neighbor says shes been "Hand feeding" this fox.
So needless to say, I bet this fox wont last long, if its running up to people for treats.

Yep, quite the year so far.

Thanks for reading,,

Dusty
