Yeah I know...another Phantom thread...you say. Razz

Well just got my rifle in parts again to properly clean, buff, smooth things out, etc...

Was sandpapering the inside of the chamber tube with a 2 million candle power light and saw the ... ... "The what the heck is it called again?" Anyway the little hole to send the pellet flying and instantly I thought...wish I could chamfer that from the inside just to give it a better/ consistencies airflow.

How could I do that? With a long dirll bit or one on an extension and just run the drill in reverse?

I just think it would be another tuning you could do while the rifle is apart. You'd be improving the airflow...No???

What are your thoughts on that?

Isn't that a lot for five minutes of your time if you're in no rush if you go through all the trouble of dismantling everything?

Wouldn't it help making a break barrel maybe more accurate?

Well i guess if you have all apart it not hard to do . just don,t enlarge the port

Its been 20 years last i did i have so many high powered i have lost the will to tinker for that last bit of power .read up about putting buttons on the piston i remember getting lots of power that way

Buttons on pistons??? I've never heard of such a thing but then...I only use to just shoot and not tinker with them.

BTW, it's not about getting more power I'm looking for.

I'm more interested in getting it to shoot as best as it can as in tighter groups. It's my only long gun.

Shots started going crazy on me using the rifle sights. What the hell?

Ends up my sight screws lossen up so much that the sight wiggled side to side like it shouldn't be.

Lock tight coming soon. Smile

Yup- Loctite on a springer is usually a good idea (just maybe not on sights you want to be able to adjust).

Something new- I was testing a bunch of pellets today- and it seems the Phantom 500's factory spring, coupled with a 1000 piston may not have been able to take the strain!

Where the gun would shoot 14.3gr pellets at just under 700fps a month ago- it will now only shoot at 550-ish fps. Maybe the cold weather, cold gun, cold pellets has had some influence on this- but it appears as though the factory spring may have compressed itself. Strange- especially as the gun was stored un-cocked. I will have to investigate more when I get some time...

That is strange indeed especially since you haven't used the rifle in awhile.

The rear sight is actually screw down to the barrel by two screws, those are the ones I was referring to, not the windage or elevations ones.

My Phantom is still right up there, no problems with the seal.
Had some new pistons machined up, I'll take some pic.s now it fits the B-21 spring, no bind what so ever .. have one in my Quest right now, its rocking. I'll strip down the Phantom this weekend and put this new spring and piston in it, also diff kind of seal. The spring is 33 coils .130 wire the Quest is doing 1008 with hobbies.
I can only imagine what the Phantom will do.

Well gunrunner it's been days, what's up?

As for me, I'm awaiting for my Rex scope to arrive any time soon, figured I should buy a decent scope for it since it doesn't like it's own brand.

I'm still searching to get some replacement Quest/Phantom seals but it's taking forever it seems though I haven't tried everybody yet.

In between that, my 2240 is shaping up to be different then when I bought it, sure would like some wooden grips to replace those plastic ones...in time it will be so. Smile

Waiting to get my pistons back from the machinist have to get a few thou shaved off, also ordered to more pistons and seals from Gravel based in Quebec, seems there handling Crosman in Canada, back order from the States,
Soon as its all together I'll post the findings on the Phantom. On the Phanton I have a Fitco 3x9x50 which works great and very nice clear lens.
Regarding scopes, I use a Bushy 3x9x32 and Tasco 3x9x40 and the Fitco,
The Fitco FF6x24x44 IL scopes I have been using on my Quests for a couple of yrs now without any problems what so ever, I have the 8x44 which I use on my B-4 which is putting out 813fps with hobbies and Red dot from them I use on my B-9 and break barrel pistol and both are holding up real good and there prices are excellent. Haven's had a scope break on me yet.. lucky I guess.
Once the Phantom gets done I'll have 2 more guns to work on, since the Phantom spring will fit the B-4 and the B-4 spring will fit the B-9... ouch does it ever end ..lol

If you don't mind me asking Gunrunner, what are those Quebec-based Gravel guys asking for a (I will assume Quest 1000) piston? And are they shipping it with a seal, or no?

they quoted me 37.50 for a Quest 500 and 1000 piston and 2 seals plus shipping which I don't know what the price of shipping is .. plus its going to take 2 to 3 weeks since they have to order the stuff from Crs. U.S.
