I have finished the restoration of a Crosman 140 - 2nd Variant, self cocking but with the spoon breech.... Photos are below:

Since this is the more desireable variant I left it as stock as possible.... I did modify the piston by fitting a new front end with an O-ring (like a 2289 F-T-P) but I left the felt oiler in place.... This mod allows the pressure to build faster.... and this gun does at 8 pumps what a typical 140 does at 10 pumps, according to lauchlin.... The performance with 14.3 gr. JSB Express pellets is as follows:

2 pumps: 375 fps
4 pumps: 505 fps
6 pumps: 585 fps
8 pumps: 635 fps
10 pumps: 675 fps

I completely stripped the gun apart and removed any traces of rust and (cold) re-blued all the steel parts.... I machined flats in the bolt which retains the valve and stock so that pliers are no longer required to remove it.... that is now done with a 3/8" wrench (as it should have been!).... The trigger sear was polished to 2000 grit and a lighter spring fitted.... All the seals were replaced before re-assembly.... The stock was stripped and sanded down to bare wood.... After finish sanding, it was restained and finished with 7 coats of Danish Oil.... and progressively wet sanded until I reached 600 grit.... It then received 4 coats of MinWax.... The results speak for themseles.... It is truly a beautiful piece of wood, with a rich satin sheen.... I figure I have about 12 hours in the stock alone....

The results are a 50+ year old air gun with better performance than any modern pumper, and gorgeous to look at.... Made the way guns should be, all wood and metal - no plastic.... The gun is registered so a PAL is required if you are in Canada.... The price is $300 plus shipping.... a bargain considering the amount of work.... PM with any questions....

Bob

I am kind of new to this specific forums, usually the Admin closes the thread once the item is sold...
