Track of the Wolf .25 cal Barrels?

I have a question about the .25 cal barrel "liners" from Track of the Wolf.... They list three different ones in .25 cal:

.25-20 (.250 bore, .257 groove, 14" twist)
.25-35 (.250 bore, .257 groove, 10" twist)
.25 Auto (.243 bore, .250 groove, 14" twist)

I know that the head diameter of .25 cal pellets is nominally 0.250".... I would assume that in a .250 bore, the head would only ride on the rifling.... while in the .243 bore it would be engaged.... Does anyone have any experience with these barrels?.... Which would you recommend?....

Bob

A 10" or 14" twist seems a little fast - the airguns that I have measured have all been high teens or low twenties.

Check out the Greenhill formula for determining optimal twist rate. (But remember an airgun pellet is partially drag stabilized.)

I realize that.... LW barrels are 450mm (17.7") twist.... On the other hand, too much is less of a problem than too little.... Mr. Green

Anybody have experience with these barrel liners?....

I don't have any experience with them, but I'd like to hear how it works when you try them.

I think you are right. The .243 bore .250 groove is probably going to be the best option for .25 pellets or ball.

How much coin do these liners cost? Got a link? What are you planning on putting the barrel on?

Nope... I was going to pull the trigger on one... but Lothar Walther barrel blanks run less when you add up the $4.89 per inch price on a 23" barrel....

Problem is getting LW barrels into Canada.... They won't deal without a $380 US Export permit in place.... Shocked

Here is the list of liners:

You could argue with them... No Export permit required if the order total including shipping is less than $2500...

I just went through this with USPS...

Orders less than $2500 are exempt...

Buying it by the inch adds up quick. Still, it makes sense if you want to make a .25 barrel for something like a Tallon SS where you only have ten or eleven inches. Lots of springers have between a foot and a foot and a half, still not bad. Two feet for a Condor is getting expensive. It all depends on what you need.

If you can't get a Walther barrel shipped directly to Canada, and what you really want is one of those; could you have it shipped to someone in the US then have them ship it to you? That adds shipping cost which would have to be factored in. I'm just saying that if it's what you need for your project that it may be worth it to get what you want.

I'm interested in Joe's suggestion that there may be an exemption for orders under $2500.... Some of the imformation I have found indicates that anyone exporting barrels (and certain other firearm parts) from the US could face up to 5 years in jail....

No way would I want to put a friend in jeopardy.... Shocked

No exporting barrels? That's news to me. I'd better look into that. I sold a few barrels and such on gunbroker a little while ago. Sold them in the US, but if someone from Canada had bid I doubt it would have even occured to me that it may be a problem. Definitely worth finding the facts on this.

The US ECCN for air guns is EAR99 which is a catch all number...
Everything I found points to them being exempt if the total value is less than $2500 per shipment to the same recipiant every 60 days.

This all has to do with the US Exporting License requirements... Not some fine or imprisonment for shipping a air gun or rifle barrel.

I'm still waiting for a direct answer from the Census office which is the office that has jurisdiction on Export Licenses...

on a serious note I wonder if it matters if it is a barrel blank as opposed to a barrel. I know it's simantics but sometimes that all that matters.
