Hey Gang,

I have a Gamo Bigcat 1200 in .177 caliber.

I've been using Kodiak in 10.5 grain and I'm wondering what the result would be if I step up the weight to something heavier.

I'm wondering if anybody has any thoughts or experiences they could share, I've read from Charlie da Tuna that for .177 calliber that we shouldn't shoot anything over 10 grains because it can damage the piston/seals. Does anybody have any experiences to share?

Damage? That would be entirely dependent on the specific gun. It's doubtful that the Gamo Bigcat will be damaged by something heavier. That being said, there are only a couple of pellets over 10.5gr- why do you want heavier?

That's a good question, I was noticing that the heavier that I've gone the better more accurate my shots and groups have been. My reasoning has been since I'm progressing in weight, and my shots and groups are getting better, perhaps if I go heavier I'll get better results.

Is this line of reasoning folly or do you think its an experiment worth investing time and money into? I'm curious to see if anybody else has had similar experiences or perhaps the opposite experiences... or, if all these pellet guns are just plain gosh darn so different you can't tell!!!

I just bought a tin of H&N Rabbit Magnums, they're 15.75 grains... this seems a bit heavy for a springer in .177 caliber, but if you don't think it'll be a problem I'm going to give it the old college try.

I'll let you know what the results are, and if anybody has any experience with these I'd love to hear from you!!!

your velocity might be in the 600's max. those are meant
for a pcp. waaay to heavy. you will tax the spring excessively.

for a gun of that power your best in the 8-9 grain range.

try some 8.4 grain jsb. they'll likely hit 830 fps-ish
in your big cat and fly very straight. Smile

Thanks for the response, would it be a danger to just shoot through the tin of 200? Don't ask me what I was thinking, I'm getting the feeling I should have just gotten some kodiaks that have been working for me... oh well.

i wouldn't shoot a whole tin. a few likely won't hurt to satisfy
curiousity. i once ran a few 28.4 EJ's thru my .22 techforce 89.
i only got 535 fps- not the 800 fps i get with a 14.3.

If it's any consolation I don't have a single gun that likes Rabbit Magnums in either caliber.... couldn't hit the broad side of a barn door from inside the barn.... Rolling Eyes
